Va Beach v20 project

I sold my t-top yesterday, I sold for 50 dollars more than what I paid for it so im in good shape. The top just wasnt what I was looking for anymore. Plus its one less thing I have to work on at this point. Im gonna be picking up 3 more gallons of resin on Friday and some more 1708 to glass over the covering boards/gunwales. I just cant wait till this glass work is over. Switched all the wood accents over to mahoghony and fabricated the steering wheel base and outrigger bases.:hi:

I did some gelcoat yesterday. I dont understand the big hub bub about applying gelcoat? I did the easiest of application by rolling it. After consulting with my supply house they said simply apply 3 coats with pre waxed gelcoat they said like waxed resin you can apply second and third coat wet on wet with out sanding. I gelcoated my anchor rope locker and some other hard to reach areas that cant be painted once cap ply is glued. will have pics up later.

So at this point i have 2 restorations going, besides my boat Im also restoring this 1975 135 hp evinrude with 130 psi in three cylinders and 128 in the other, it is a family owned motor since new. I ve stripped the motor down of all trim and tilt parts, badges off the cowel, transom pivot bracket and lower unit im replacing all the seals, water intake screen, water pump housing and impellor kit. Im gonna also etch prime all bare aluminum and paint the motor all white. LIFE IS BUSY!!!!

I am glad you decided to sell that top. The boat is turning out nice and that top was fugly.

The repairs I have done with gelcoat were not too bad but I could not imagine doing a whole deck with the stuff while aiming for perfection. Every little spot of peel or anything else would drive me crazy. The sanding would never be done. I have been impressed with bildgekote for things like anchor and under deck storage but I wouldn't hesitate to apply gelcoat in those areas either.

Finally worked on the boat today. Glued the wash rail down and then glassed the whole cap from inner rail and into the exterior of the hull 1 1/2 inches.

I glued the bow cap on today and the wash rail. I will be prepping the cap and getting it ready to glass in the whole thing on sunday. getting closer boys!!!!

fiber disk cleaning

I figured out a little trick today for prolonging the life of your fiber disks on your grinders. I catch myself throwing them away after they get loaded up with wax. Today I soaked one for about a minute in acetone and then stroked it with a wire brush and it came out like brandnew. Im sure this has been thought of before but I figured I'd share.

no not really. just taking it one step at a time. I have alot going on. Im hoping to have it done in about 2 months.

I think that's wise...a target date as priority instead of what you want to get done is a self-imposed SQUEEZE...you're on course to have a really nice CC once yer done...and that'll happen in it's own good time...I've really enjoyed watching the progress you've made!!...

X2. This is one of the longest running threads on this board and I cannot tell you how impressed I've been with your skill and determination. I just wish we lived closer so I could personally see this dream coming to fruition. Hang in there and do what you can when you can. Don't set a target date, just keep plugging along. It will happen, I promise.

glassed 8 more feet of the covering boards yesterday. Each little bit of work i do gets me closer to finish. After all the glass work is done I will have help fairing the boat out and painting it. will have pics later

well I am happy to say that all the structual glass work is done!!!!!:sly: Its a skim and sand game now. Im gonna be rolling gell coat on the top side of this boat, 3 coats wet on wet and a 4 final coat all coats will be with waxed gelcoat. It will be gelcoated in sections, the cap will be done and completed then the the side walls of the liner will be completed and then the floor. I just dont want to paint the inside,Its a pain in the @ss and the gelcoat will be alot more durable. I also have decided im not vc performance epoxing the bottom. The gelcoat is in pretty good shape and some spots will need some attention with some matching gelcoat. I will be matching and blending my own, I wanted to learn how to do this anyway. Can I call wellcraft and get a gelcoat match from them? 1974 is a long time ago! lol!

Back in 1999 when I was redoing my '74 I called wellcraft and had a good, informative conversation w one of their techs...I would think they will be able to provide color numbers for you...if not I recall seeing "Wellcraft White" on a list of available colors...well lookie here what googled up

http://www.iboats.com/Wellcraft-2008-2009-Off-White-VAL-Color-Boat-Gel-Coat-Gallon-Spectrum-Color/dm/view_id.834133?cm_mmc=Google_Main-_-Mall+Product+Listings%3AGoogle-_-+%3AMall+Product+Listings%3AGoogle-_-Spectrum+Color&kw={keyword}&gclid=CKH1xN-xnbcCFU1o7Aod6CoAJg

This is obviously for later models, but might be what yer looking for...you'll have to check it out for yourself...good luck and let us know...and HEY!!...whaddabout them PICTURES??...

The LINK isn't coming up...Google Wellcraft White or copy/paste the above into your address bar see what comes up...

thanks for the info reel. I dont understand why guys dont fair with gelgoat? its cheap, feathers and sands beautifully and can be thickened to your liking. at 40 dollars a gallon I ccould roll 3 coats on and still have to sand just as much if i was using a fairing compound!! gelcoat is very easy to work with it seems so far

all glassed up and roughly blocked in.

as you can see the floor penatration have been hotcoated then one strip of CSM around the perimeter and 3 coats of gelcoat.

all holes that go thru the core ply are hotcoated and 3 coats of gelcoat are to follow. the key is to seal up all wood properly. all holes holes in the transom are treated the same. the holes on the transom are over drilled by a 1/2 inch then refilled with a fiber reinforced thickend resin then 2 layers of CSM are glassed on like patches on both sides. I then redrill my holes and its protected by a 1/4 inch ring of glass. then i put 2 coats of gelcoat on the holes. Its completely overboard but I just want to protect my core ply

Lookin good Kracker! That console really gives that custom look!

You also have EXCELLENT taste in beer my friend, nothin' beats an ice cold Fatty Natty!!
