Spare in the Hospital

Dave that series of Smith's semi autos were an improvement over the 39 and others but no where near the ball park of reliability and shootability of the Glock. Some of the P.D's that had them got rid of them early due to reliability and repair issues.
Smith;s new semi auto is doing very well I am being told and so is Springfield Armory's Croatian built gun.
Taurus's 9mm Beretta 92 clones in all sizes apparently are very nice and well made.
CZ has nice composite frame gun to.
A lot of competition for that 450-650 price range right now.
Ruger got good right ups on their small 9's but I have not inspected or shot one yet, nor do I know anyone who has. Ruger revolvers are decent and respected among pistoleros around here but not trusted semi auto wise.
If you can find a used Sig Sauer in the shops, older Sigs that is and especially any made in either West Germany or Germany especially the 228 229 226 239 models you have the best made in your hands and especially the 228 and 229 if you are looking for a smaller framed 9mm.
The new ones quality control has gone down terribly the past 4-5 years and I would not buy another one until some serious corporate changes happen.
This Sig 225 in 9mm has been my constant partner on my hip on and off duty for 25 years. Along with a Smith 38 snub revolver during the hot summers.
This Sig has never once failed to feed any type of ammo, never failed to fire, not once, even with questionable ammo, and shoots a 2" hole at 20 yards all day, with jus about any ammo. Over 6 thousand rounds through her.

I would actually look for used German made Sig 228 before I would buy any contemporary made gun. JMHO

I was specifically waiting for Willy's response. The 6096 guns i was looking at were department of correction trade ins. I've always liked the Smiths, but i remembered some issues back when they were new, long before the Tupperware guns came to power. I've been skeptical of the Sigs mainly from the attitude of the people who endorsed them(Gun counter Know it all's). I found some real good deals on trade in G22's but i didn't want to start up with another caliber. The Smiths caught my eye, but Willy just made my mind up on them, I'll keep looking and see if I can come up with a used 225 now that they aren't the choice of ARFcom/fagpull crowd. I'm trying to find something around the size of my hi power(maybe a little smaller), but in a DA/SA for carry. I can't get used to carrying cocked and locked. I've gotten used to the DAO of my Smith 380 BG.

BTW, I like the Benchmade as well, I told myself I;d never pay that kind of money for a knife, but after finding one in a truck I bought, its become my best friend. I abuse it daily and it never even thinks of failing

I am rather fond of you myself Tsubaki:beer:

Dave that BenchMade never cuts anything, I have my 30 year old Swiss Army for any chores to be done.
That BenchMade is there for one purpose and one purpose only, to cut whatever needs to be cut to save my life. Living or material.

I would seriously pursue that Sig, a 225 is around the size of a High Power, slimmer in the handle due to single stack magazine.
The 228 is a little shorter length wise and a little thicker in the handle. Higher capacity. Most women I trained had no problem with it size wise.
Many Sigaholics consider it the finest pistol Sig ever made for all around feel balance accuracy and reliability.
Though I will tell you from considerable experience with all their models there is literally no difference other than feel in the hand between the 225, 226, 229, 220.
As long as they say on the slide" Made in West Germany or Made in Germany"
An early gun made in Alexandria VA or Exeter New Hampshire are still decent but in around 2001 - 2003 period the corporate suits out voted the Gun Smith's and quality started deteriorating. Though many still love them.
Want to see a real operator get a chubby, hand him a German made 228 0r 226 or 225 or 229. If he has any experience in martial training there is going to be a big smile on his face and good luck getting it back.
And if you find a clean used one keep me in mind my friend, I am always interested in one of those.

just think that scar could look like a v-20 emblem without today's surgery technology.
get well soon and have a speedy 100% recovery.

Hope you're feeling better! Tore muscles in my back 25 years ago and still have spasams from it when I lift something heavy. Take it easy and let that back heal up good!

no problem MJ, I know you had more important issue to tend to

Well yesterday was my first day back working, I slept late, watched TV, drank coffee and screwed off with the computer most of the day. i did go thru my emails and files to figure out where I needed to start at today. Well today was my first day back wrenching, and boy do I feel it, took my time, didn't do anything too heavy and got a fair amount done, but now I'm ready for a shower, a muscle relaxer and my recliner

I have carried a Glock 23 (.40 cal) for about 10 years now and can't imagine not carrying it (I trust my life with it everyday). Had the chance to switch to a Sig but after shooting it, found the Sig heavy and combersome compaired to the Glock.

My most favorite 9 mm is my Beretta 92F (Italian made, the USA made ones are crap). To me it is really the best shooting handgun I have ever shot.

You can never go wrong with a good old S&W wheel gun, my 642 (stainless/aluminum .38 Internal hammer snubbie) goes everywhere with me when not working and I love to plink with my Model 63 (stainless 4" Square Butt J frame .22).
