Spare in the Hospital

OK, I'm bored out of my mind, my wife won't let me do anything, and its raining outside. My brain is a little frazzled from the percocets. I have this urge to go juggle chainsaws or shoot something. Kendall's running around wide open chaing Banks and I'm slowly but surely eating everything I can find in the house. I can't find any good war movies or westerns on TV, so I'm here typing out dribble and planning my next boat expense. Good thing is, my phone has been ringing all day with work, I've got to find me a helper. I'd ask Oz but I think we'd just end up drinking at Finz instead of working

For Gods sake spare! You don't tie flies or reload or somethin'?
Really, I'm glad you're felling better enough to *****!

Ok, here's something you can help me out with.
See what data you can find for the 45 Colt (Long Colt) using Blue Dot with a 250gr Hornady XTP.
I don't know the answers yet but I think I'm close.

from my Lee manual
nothing with blue dot in a 250 gr jacketed or xtp
260 gr xtp starting load 1.4 gr 839 fps ne load 13.0 gr 941 fps
not much given in the Lee Book with Blue Dot

Barnes manual only had one load and it was with the 225 xpb
(I just started reloading, the barnes book has a lot of real interesting info the other books don't have, but its with stuff I'll never use)

Handloads.com data http://handloads.com/loaddata/defau...&Weight=250&type=Handgun&Order=Powder&Source=

All my reloading stuff is up on a high shelf, thought about dragging it down, but figured I'd bust my *** trying to get it down. My neighbor and I just started reloading(we're splitting cost on materials), he's got a Judge with a 6" barrel that he want's to load up practice rounds for, I'm starting with 45 ACP to reload. I just got thru about 20 pages of crap that I read thru about running cast lead bullets thru a glock, got a head ache from all the bs and inflated egos. Any recommendations for acp? I picked up some ranier 230 FMJs and got some 230 gr LRN. I've been reading up on casting my own bullets, I've got a real good connection on high grade bulk lead, with the way ammo is going up(specifically 45 acp), its about the only way I'll be able to shoot. BTW, I've got a set of 270 Win dies if you know anyone that needs them. I'm going to at least sort my small primer and larger primer acp brass tomorrow

Most 45ACP's prefer FMJ's, some tolerate plated or lead stuff and even in semi wad cutters.
Usual problem is the feed ramp causing the tip of the bullet to stick slightly, causing the jam. Polishing the ramp helps but I just stick with the FMJ's.
Presently pushing a 230gr FMJ with 10.0gr of Blue Dot and getting 865fps out a 5" barrel and 980fps out of a 7" barrel in a Govt Model.
Blue Dot has been very reliable and easy to fool with, only problem is it's very dirty.
I am considering a Winchester 1892 (new model) and an EMF revolver both in 45 Colt. Already have all the components to reload them just haven't made up my mind.
Hey start a reloading thread, I'll give as much bad info as the next guy!

I'm shooting 45 acp thru a Springer, a series 80 Officer acp and a G21, whats your opinion of lead thru a glock, lots of hear say, very little known fact

The best reliable info I've ever found is to try it and see.
I've been told the same that you've already found out. Some shoot most anything without any problems.
Seems to be firearms of the same make or even consecutive serial numbers have some subtle preferences.
Other things also can come into play. When I let my brother in law shoot mine I witnessed limp wristing being a problem feeding. Yet it did fine with me.
Also have an XD I have yet to try out. Been told they will eat anything, also been told they don't tolerate SWC's.

I'm sure you've read about using "the best brass" etc, etc.
As you see, I don't discriminate.

Oh, about molding your own. I'm sure you've seen about the need to lube the bullets. This was the only thing that has slowed me from doing my own.
Even though I'm doing .451RB for a 44 cap & ball, 320gr REAL for 50cal and 1oz Drive Key for a slug gun, I just can't make myself do stuff for metallic cartridges.

If you are intending to use the Glock with lead bullets please order a replacement barrel from Barsto or similar as the type of rifling they use is not appropriate for lead bullets.
great guns, I have two, a 21 and a 30. But I would not use my reloads in them. Also the chambers in Glock factory barrels are not a full support (for the case) type barrel. That is a problem with reloads, especially for multiply fired brass.
Again great guns, just use them within respect of Gastons intention and design.

I've finally took the time to actually research the Glops instead of letting opinions prejudge me.
I'm actually very impressed with them and would definitely consider a Model 20 although just a few more mm's of barrel length would make me happier.
I completely agree with willy however as with most things I'll bastardize stuff in a flash.
This is what I've determined.
The factory barrels "will" shoot lead stuff fine and without hazard "if" you are diligent to remove the lead deposits. Seems the rifling design accumulates lead more readily than others normal barrels. A replacement barrel for the constant use of lead stuff would be a better idea.
The reloaded ammo "will" be fine "if" you follow correct reloading basics of brass inspection and preparation. The unsupported chamber will show defects of the brass in a most negative way through rupture.
The combined two designs can easily cause major problems due to improper maintenance and defective reloading procedures.
I'm still impressed with the Glocks but have no real physical basis for this.

first morning without the prescription meds, just ibuprofin, one word for you oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!
I'm sore and moving real slow, looks like another day in the recliner.

As far as the glocks go, I was surprised how much disinformation was claimed to be fact, the internet pissin matches were over the top, you'd a thought some one said something bad about a Wellcraft. General consinsous is if you shoot lead, keep pressue low, use hard alloy, clean often. The lead haters seem to be the same ones who wash their glocks in the dishwasher and swear they only need to have it done every 5000 rounds. I think I'm going to play it safe and buy bullets for now, might buy a barrel, awful tempting to get one with threads on the end and apply for the stamp. On another note, I've been shopping a 9mm for the wife, got it narrowed down to Ruger SR9, G19, or trade in Smith 6906, I'm liking the Smith more and more, I can get one for under $400. Any opinions on the Smith?

Too soon for bourbon intake?

I have no experience with those three but recall no bad opinions of them either.
Let her pick from the ones you're comfortable with. I'm sure you don't dare pick what shoes she has.

My favorite handgun to this day is my S&W Model 13- 357mag revolver. Plink with the cheapest of .38 special wad-cutters. The S&W copy of a 1911 is a decent shooter.. Not sure about the 9mm though Spare.
