Sliding hatch question

So...the hatch just "popped" off the hatchway when I slid it closed. I don't see any way that it was held in, aside from having the teak rail overlap the lip of the hatch. Does anyone have a better explanation and some close up photos? 1977 vintage.
 
Thats how 78+ model hatches are held on, just the teak overlapping the lip on the side of the hatch. Maybe you need something to stop it from continuing to slide when it's fully closed.
 
Is there anything affixed to the bottom of the hatch, to help it slide? Anything like rubber or foam seals? Close up pictures of the hatch on 1977 and earlier models appreciated. I'm also making the assumption that there was no door that closed off the cuddy? I see no attachment points for anything like that.

Yes, the cuddy is closed off by a door. The sliding hatch lands on the top of the door, and the lip on the hatch folds over the rear edge of the door so that when the hatch is in place the cuddy door cannot be opened.

Destroyer, thanks for your reply. I snagged a picture from Blue Runner, he has a good one that shows the construction of the hatchway into the cuddy. This is the same as my boat. The aft cabin wall is 1/2" ply, and I don't see a way for a door to be constructed to fit.

Here's a shot from sloppyhooker's 1979. I can see definitely how this layout works. My boat doesn't look like this.

Barring any other input, I don't see that my 1977 came with an associated cuddy door, I just find that wierd. I hope there will be a few close ups from other members that own pre-77 boats.
