My father-in-law bought me a penn long beach at a yard sale for my birthday. Showed him one a couple months ago that my friend rebuilt for me. I wasn't expecting an old reel.

lol that’s a new one. Never heard of a yard sale reel for a birthday present. But that’s good. Now when his birthday comes around start going to yard sales or thrift stores.
But maybe he thought he was doing a good thing. After all he was thinking of you

I told him I wanted a couple more reels. I would rather have the old ones than new junk. My friend rebuilds them for me. I never tried it yet.

Nice present. The good thing about Penn’s, they’re Easy to work on , parts are largely available and not that expensive.

There is a guy from New Jersey, i think, on Youtube that goes through most Penns and gives step by step on how to disassemble clean, lube and assemble. You can search by model number.

I went through mine couple of winters ago, kinda fun on a cold rainy day.

Sounds like you have a good FIL

One thing about those old Penn reels - They were made in the good old U.S.A. - I just mailed my sister 4 Penn reels - I got them when I was around 6, I'm 82 right now - All are in brand new condition - This was my first =The Penn155 Beachmaster, I think I was about 6 when my father got it for me, when we would go to Moriches to Flounder fish out of Silly Lilly's - Next is the Penn 140 Squidder, he got that for me when I was around 9 - When I started walking to Canarsie Pier to fish - The Squidder is an excellent reel for casting and to clean, it's - One screw take apart - Next was the Penn Peerless 9 - I have no clue when I got it or remember ever getting it - Great flounder reel - Maybe one of the first level winds - Finally my favorite It's not an old reel, but my favorite Striper reel The Penn 975 international -I just sent my Friend Lloyd my 5 Shimano spinners - The sticks are next to go
I hope I didn't take this over - G

I have 5 old penn reels ( conventional) and they are so smooth that it’s hard to beat. You turn the handle and the spool keeps spinning. Made in the. U. S. A. They last forever and are hard to beat The only issue I have with then
is they are on the heavy side Great reels. Think of how many world records were made using penn reels

I mailed my sister my remaining sticks and reels:cry: - She got them yesterday - She's going to give them to a couple of the life guards at the club where she manages - I hope they enjoy them - I couldn't sell them here - People wanted to give me $10 for a $250 stick - So I said STUPID, if you want to give them away - Give them to people who will appreciate them - So I checked with my sister to see if she knew anyone - She did - One, he surf casts right on the beach and is always catching something - The other has a family and a boat - They love fishing - I told her - Give it all to them - What they don't want and since she lives in Boynton Beach, Florida, try to sell them and keep the money - The only stick and reel she's not getting rid of is my Jigging World Black Widow Acid and the Avet reel - My favorites (y)- Next, is to figure out how to get rid of all my other stuff, so much - To all, enjoy Black fishing if you fish for them - To everyone who don't or just can't - Your loss 😂 :ROFLMAO: Only teasing - Enjoy your fishing no where it is or what you are going for:beer: 🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸

You kept one combo I hope. I7nderstand what you’re saying. I have about 100 rods and 50 reels. All my sons have just as much as I do. They don’t need it but I did try to sell a few rods at a yard sale and you and me know what they are worth
I had a 13 foot ,three piece surf rod on line it listed for over $150.00. I put it up for $20.00 this guy comes by and looks at it with a magnifying glass and points out 1 ceramic insert is cracked. ( I didn’t know it ) Doherty offers my $15.00. I took it just toget rid of it. He opens his wallet and he is loaded with money. ,that’s a yard sale. I have now about 15 maybe 30 rods that I would sell but I know they will offer me next to nothing. I took out tel yesterday and was going to ask $20.00 each. I never used them. They go for about $100.00 each. I was looking at them and put them BACK into my closet.
I would rathergiv3 them to a kid who is starting to fish then sell them for nothing.
I hav3 some old reels. Vintage that I will never use again but I can’t sell them for nothing. I would ask $10.00 and they will offer me $5.00. I just can’t do it. I hope all your rods keep catching fish in Florida. And they will. Cause of you. Great job.

Step, no I didn't keep any thing for me - My sister called me to tell me she gave the reel and sticks to the life guards - She says that they couldn't thank her enough - It's worth just giving them away to people who do appreciate what they get - Not these losers who try to steal it away from you But my sister did keep the Black Widow Acid stick along with the Avet reel - She says just in case - I think she also kept the Star Plasma stick - She said she liked the way it looked - It still had the plastic on it with the American Flag - Made in the U.S.A. - I said that's because I never used it - The picture is of one of the life guards holding his catch of the day 😂 - He said he's coming into work early so he can try out the 9' Tica stick - He catches every thing of the clubs beach Next is my Grudens, and hooks to go - I know you said, no fishing this weekend - BUT if you get to go out - I think Sunday is the day - Windy tomorrow 15-20, Sunday 5-10 - HAPPY HALLOWEEN
