My father-in-law bought me a penn long beach at a yard sale for my birthday. Showed him one a couple months ago that my friend rebuilt for me. I wasn't expecting an old reel.

lol that’s a new one. Never heard of a yard sale reel for a birthday present. But that’s good. Now when his birthday comes around start going to yard sales or thrift stores.
But maybe he thought he was doing a good thing. After all he was thinking of you

I told him I wanted a couple more reels. I would rather have the old ones than new junk. My friend rebuilds them for me. I never tried it yet.

Nice present. The good thing about Penn’s, they’re Easy to work on , parts are largely available and not that expensive.

There is a guy from New Jersey, i think, on Youtube that goes through most Penns and gives step by step on how to disassemble clean, lube and assemble. You can search by model number.

I went through mine couple of winters ago, kinda fun on a cold rainy day.

Sounds like you have a good FIL

One thing about those old Penn reels - They were made in the good old U.S.A. - I just mailed my sister 4 Penn reels - I got them when I was around 6, I'm 82 right now - All are in brand new condition - This was my first =The Penn155 Beachmaster, I think I was about 6 when my father got it for me, when we would go to Moriches to Flounder fish out of Silly Lilly's - Next is the Penn 140 Squidder, he got that for me when I was around 9 - When I started walking to Canarsie Pier to fish - The Squidder is an excellent reel for casting and to clean, it's - One screw take apart - Next was the Penn Peerless 9 - I have no clue when I got it or remember ever getting it - Great flounder reel - Maybe one of the first level winds - Finally my favorite It's not an old reel, but my favorite Striper reel The Penn 975 international -I just sent my Friend Lloyd my 5 Shimano spinners - The sticks are next to go
I hope I didn't take this over - G
