I am also using a 15x17 ss prop on a 155 commercial evinrude. I get about 38 mph wide open. Is the 15x17 prop used by most of you on a step v 20 ? I was going to try some different prop sizes but I think I'll leave it alone if that's the best torque and speed I'll get. Dennis

I use a 15X15 1/4 I have used the 17 but I like the out of hole better then I like the top speed.
When there is 3 guys and 200+ pounds fish I need that little extra push!
But I stll get up to 38mph with a light load, and curz 30+ with all the weight and thats fine by me ;D

I've never herd of a 155 commercial Johnson what year is the engine. I had trouble matching my vin. number to part # when trying to find a few parts. The place working on my motor said that it was a Military issue and when I asked the difference they had no idea. They thought maybe a little more corrosion protection and gearing than the commercial engine.

There is not a whole lot of difference in a commercial motor, But one thing you will see on every one, or not see, is the oil injection system, they don't have one!!
Which s a good thing! ;)

Mine was a 1988. It had a Johnson cover but when I traced the numbers it was actually an Evinrude (same difference).

Macojoe,
It wasn't my intention to prove you wrong. You are probably correct. My motor may have been a special order, it was owned by one of the oil refineries on the Delaware river and was used on a emergency response boat. The motor is 16 years old an has less than 400 hours on it. Mixed gas will lose its lubricating properties over long periods of time. I would assume that might be the reason it has VRO.

Don't sweat it!! I am always proven wrong!! My wife does it all the time ;)

I had just always heard that they had no injection to them, and I have seen 2 so far but they were made in Mexico.

When you have been around boats and motors lone enough you will always hear something out of the norm!!
Don't worry my skin is much thicker then that!! ;)
