Hammer when I was in my younger days on the PD I had to work three Christmas's in a row. Much to my wifes dismay :-/
For the first two we went thru the night with horrible family fights, domestics, a couple of roberies etc.
So when the third came I was very down because I knew it waqs going to be no Christmas Spirit for me.
Well I was sitting with my old Lieutenant at the desk about half an hour into the 9pm to 8am shift and I stopped off and got our normal coffee and brought it back to sit with him for a few before the sh!t hit the fan. The rest of the shift was in there also. We were all reminicing about the previous Xmas shifts when the buzzer sounds and in walks a mommy with her little seven year old girl.
They came because the little girl(with mommys help) made cookies for the policemen who had to work xmas, her idea by the way.
She was a cute little thing and she said we would all be safe tonight because it was when Jesus was born.
After she left we all dug into the cookies and one of the older guys said yea right a safe night huh.
Do you know we did not have a single call the whole night, we went out and patroled arond a couple of times and there was not a soul around, no trouble, no fights no nothing. It started to snow around 1am. and it was beautiful out, not one accident, not one call at all.
I hope a little girl with cookies visits you this year my brother.
