well here she is!

you're better off leaving it together.and using a jackplate. the 25" 140's have V6 lower units so are much stronger than 20" shafts. plus you don't want to try taking out all those bolts holding on the powerheads unless it is just 10000% nessary.

yea your right...prob better off not messing with it....but i just dont like the idea of that much weight 6 inches back from my transom....seems like it would concentrate the full weight of the motor on just the small footprint of the jackplate ..instead of when motor is attached to transom where it is more balanced and weight is more evenly dispersed along the transom....

plus i dont know the condition of my transom... when i drill the new holes i'll find out i guess lol

It's really no big deal to me, just a thought, really.

My motor is tore down to the point in question (powerrhead, lower unit off). And remember my deal.....we were thinking it was a V6 gearcase. I'm in Yorktown if your interested, if not, no biggie.

shicks..thanks for the offer ,i'll get up with you shortly when i can see clearly on this project , i have quite a bit more to do before i can think about a spare parts motor, cash flow is low, its looking like even thought i got this for free its gonna cost me a small fortune to get it mounted and running lol

i went out and took measurements on my hoist tonight..so i can modify it tomorow....i also ended up afro-engineering a motor sling  ;D...used both short transom straps and a cargo strap! it worked perfect!

skools.. think i should try starting this puppy up tomorow when i get it on the stand?....hook up some oil/gas mix and some muffs and crank her over? ;D.....all i have is battery cables ..but i can turn it over with them... how would i turn it off? lol..i could work the controls by hand......or should i wait for a wiring harness/controls?

my service manual came in today also...and i ordered 4 carb rebuild kits..should i order a fuel pump rebuild kit or just a diaphram?

gonna order the wiring harness tommorow...they are like $110...also the guy asked if i need a "Key Switch Harness and Assembly for $81.55"
...my keyswitch is mounted on my console with my gauges.....do i need a separate harness for it?

here's some pics of the sling...

found me a complete set of controls and the 2 rubber grommets that go on cowling this morning at budget boats in chesapeake...got it for $230..it has a 30 warranty....was it a deal or no?

it has the controls, wiring harness, trim harness, tach harness.. the binnacle has the key and a t/t switch , kill switch on it.

I think you all set with your controlls??

thats abot 1/2 or a little more if you had to buy all that, But you don't.

CB has both cables brand new in the box never used, for shipping cost only!!

You have the control box, so all you need are wires, unless you got them with the motor?? I forgot?

I would run it on the stand before I orded anything!! And check compersion!! You want to be sure you have at least a running motor!!

update: well got the hoist modified yesterday...worked great...got the engine mounted on stand FINALLY!.....hooked controls up...did a spark check.. got spark on all 4 cyl's!..compression good..spark good..all that i need to do now is fuel system...but i'm kinda lost with this VRO stuff...i dont want to use it but i need to figure out how to disable it totally so i dont screw it up in case i decide to use it later, manual tells me nothing on how to disable it....also got a few wires that i dont know what they go to still....i'd like to hook some gas and water up to it and try starting it today .

also..if this motor was using the VRO prior...are the carbs ready to accept a mixed fuel or is it set to a lean gas setting now and i would have to adjust it for a mix?

here's some pics...

is this where the battery cable ground goes?

dscf0014ln4.jpg

have no idea where this wire goes.. its a pinkish/tanish colored wire

this fitting on the front of the fuel pump doesnt have anything hooked to it...what goes there?

dscf0017hb6.jpg

on the trim harness there are 2 wires not connected to anything.. the plug is a 3 wire plug...are these just extras?

decided to crank her over and see whats up......connected fuel and water... and started cranking...started breifly for about 2 seconds then died....lil more cranking and started again for 2 more seconds....now wont start..just cranks....fuel problem?

Kajun, I can't really help with your current problems, other than to say that your making major headway. Is your buddy Dave in the top business? I'm ready to do something top wise.

Airslot

ok i plugged up that fitting on the fuel pump...evidently its the vro oil intake fitting....and she started right up!  ;D it prob was getting too much air in fuel pump and not creating a vaccum or something.

pisser was pissin strong! and motor sounds great..i ran it for about 5 mins tops...plus stopping and starting a bunch of times.....i didnt want to run it with out some type of overheat alarm system hooked up.......heads were both warm to the touch that i could tell......after the intial warmup ..she starts right up first crank...

packed motor away and went to work on pulling and disconnecting all the force wiring harness and stuff......next is jackplate ..i might just have to buy one new and be done with it :-/..but so far so good!!!

airslot.. nah all he does is awnings and that keeps him busy..he says boat tops are a PITA l..plus he knows the local marine canvas guys and doesnt want to break into their business........but he is fixin my cushions  ;D

you should of called brother i was at the coast but, you did the right thing by plugging the oil inlet on pump that's all there is to disconnect the oil injection and the extra 2 wires on the t/t are in your manual back wiring area they are T/T gauge.

oh yeah those controls were high i just bought a complete set just like them off ebay from AL for $38 shipped with wiring, cables, and T/T in handle looks just like what you got.

yea kinda figured they was high.. but i had been looking for a set on ebay and couldnt find anything..plus i really didnt know what i was looking for lol.....they had it all on one package and i was anxious to get it going so i bought it.

if i would have known ya number i would of called...lol

what do i do to rig up a overheat alarm? also how can i make sure its not overheating? shoud i buy one of those temperature crayons that melt at a certain temp?..if so what temp?

Kajun,

Glad to hear ya got her fired up! Sound like it won't be long, the rockfish bite hasn't turned on anyway right :D

I think the alarm/buzzer should be with the controls. To test it, take the wire from eack temp sensor (located on each head, single wire (tan I think) and touch it to ground while the ignition switch in " on".

Anybody feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Nice job on the hoist!!

But I think I would add another caster to the legs were you welded the new to the old on the long leg, just for added suport. lot of persure there.

If your using side mount controls the alarm is in there and there is othing to do but wire the boat.

But if using Bincal which it looks like you are then alarm is seprate. mounted inside ther gunnel near the control. at least thats were mine was?

Manual will tell you which wire goes to it.

Kajun, you makin' some pretty serious progress w/ your motor...on those T&T wires...green is down (where grass is)...blue is up (where the sky is)... only way I can remember stuff ;) ...plug that VRO and get ya an Accu-Mix bottle $3.99...I don't think rejettin is needed...plugged off VRO on my old Rude, best thing I ever did for her ;D ...
