water flow from heads on 135hp evinrude crossflow

Replaced thermostat on this motor. Ran engine for a second with out hoses hooked to base of heads. Water didnt flow.....it pulsed out of the head. Is this odd? I realize im on the flush with muffs and the exaust housing is not full of water like it would be if in water. What do you guys think? Any links or articles concerning same issue are welcome also.

Yea ferm the motor was running for over a minute when i removed the hoses to the thermostat. I would think the flow out of the heads would be constant and not pulse.

The water will pulse out of the heads. The water pump impeller pulses the water out as the impellers go past the outlet, so your not going to get teh smoothest of water flow with no pressure on the system.

Kracker what year is the old cross flow rude you got. I have an old 83 140 Johnson bubble back that never put out water right til I changed the thermostats and housing. After that it spit water hard, matter of fact had I not bought this I/o v20 I was gonna hang it on something else but it's been sitting around useless on the old boat right now.

Yea i just changed out the thermostat and all the guts. Guess with the exaust hosing not filled with water and lower water pressure from well water is causing it. Va beachin what ya gonna do with that 140? I live off damneck and general booth by the way so im not to far from you. I was born and raised in Sandbridge.
