V20 vs Northcoast 20

I have a offer / opportunity that I can purchase a 2006 Northcoast 20 with a Suzuki 150 (2006) (4-stroke) for around 12K. My current situation is - I need a motor for my V20 since my 1986 Mariner broke in a big way this past fall. I have been shopping around for rebuilt and used motors and stumbled upon this deal. Now initially I do not want to give up my V20, but this seems like a pretty good deal. Your thoughts and comments? What kind of reputation does the northcoast brand have? How about the 150 HP 4stroke zuki? Warranty, maintenance issues, known problems, things to check out during inspection etc.

Thanks

Carl

First off, I know nothing about the Northcoast boat. But from discussuions here on this and other sites I can tell you that Suzuki's have a rep for corrosion... something to do with the metal they use. They are also great engines except for the corrosion factor.

As far as the boats go... why not have two? :head:

appears from their current product line you're talking about a center console as I don't see any other 20'er offered...you'd be giving up the cuddy configuration and in CT, that would be an issue for me...even down here in SC, I want the full windshield the cuddy has...but that's a personal decision for you...I don't have any 1st hand experience...they look great on their site and w/the exception of the corrosion factor Destroyer mentions...if it was taken care of, properly maintained, that may not be an issue...

The Northcoast is a popular boat up here in the northeast. I happen to like them very much. The build quality seems very good from the ones that I've checked out at past boat shows.
If you want to do some research, I believe they started out way back when as Bonito Boats in larger sizes. Just before the Northcoast name, they were Lima Boats. From what I've seen the quality of the Northcoast has improved since they were Lima Boatworks.
I have no personal experience with Suzuki so I won't comment on them.

My 2003 Johnson (Suzuki) 140 doesnt have any corrosion problems.

However, I did buy it new and flush and wash it religiuosly when it comes out of the salt.

A friend of mine had a Northcoast 24 and loved it, think it was an 80's model.

Always nice to upgrade to a newer boat, even if its not a V-20.

So I convinced my wife to go take a look at the northcoast on Sunday. She really like the boat. I was happy to see her get excited about a new boat. Now I just have to swing some financing and work the deal. :sly: I am trying to set up a test run tomorrow.
