V20 Battery Question

I bought a 1992 V20 today. Its got dual batteries in the fish box. Is this a normal modification, assuming it didn't come that way. I like dual batteries and its probably good to have the weight forward. Just curious if this was a common setup. I will need to investigate how the battery clamps were secured.

Lots of pictures here if you need a V20 fix.

looks like a good rig & a pressure washer and a jug of bleach is in your future. probably not where the batteries were originally, most were in the stern on a shelf between the stringers over the keel or on a shelf under the storage boxes in the stern cap.

If you are going to keep other stuff in there, you might want to put a hard cover over the batteries.

I looked at your other pix. The fuel tank is plastic and NOT foamed in? I don't know if thats normal for a '92.

Looks like the tank deck lid was not sealed because of all the goo on top of the tank. On most V20s, the tank is foamed in and there is a pvc pipe running under it to pass bilge water through the compartment from bow to stern. The deck lid must be sealed because there is no drainage of the tank compartment.

Check to see that the compartment drains or seal the lid with silicone.

Its a beautiful boat. Welcome to the V20 site.

The plastic tank (and good transom) is one of the reasons I bought the boat. I was looking at older 70 and 80 vintage boats with aluminum tanks and trying to avoid a tank replacement. When I scraped the sludge away and saw a plastic tank I assumed they must have switched to plastic by 1992. The install looked original and the owner didn't mention anything about a tank replacement.

I plan on securing/covering the batteries so I can use the space for some storage.

Pennzoil lower unit oil

Is there much of a differance from

pennzoil lower unit oil and quick silver lower unit oil
I got a very good deal on pennzoil lower unit oil today

You sir have a great example of a great boat!!...looks to be in great shape and a nearly blank canvas to make of it what you wish...

Heads up on the flat rod holder on top of your gunwale...taking a rod out of that rod holder can cause it to slip out of the base and into the water...ask me how I know...LOL!!...especially since it's mounted horizontally on top...it's typically mounted vertically on the inside...Glad to see you took the tank hatch lid up to inpsect, but be sure to SEAL the gap once you replace the lid...I recommend 3M 4200 for that...you really don't want water to drain into that area over time...

Thanks for all the great pics and keep us posted on what you do w/her!!
