Top Dog!!

Labs (as well as other dogs) have been known to overeat, as well as eating things they shouldn't. Our younger dog (on the left in photo) partially ingested a dead mole, which I suspect had been poisoned. He was only around 6 months old at the time, and we feared we would loose him. Vet endoscoped (sp?) his stomach -- it was full of ulcers. It took nearly a full month for recovery, and during that time he could hardly eat, and that in what should have been prime growth spurt. I believe to this day that he would have been larger than our older Lab, but for the illness. To this day we "monitor" our dogs whenever they're outside -- I don't intend to let anything like that happen again. (He STILL wants to pick up dead stuff!)

Tin, according to the "experts," there is no difference in black, yellow and chocolate except color. My wife, with 23 years of experience in the veterinary field, will tell you different. Blacks and yellows are very much alike, but she maintains chocolates are . . . well . . . stupid. BUT, one of the nicest Labs I know is a chocolate, so there you go. I put more stock in breeding and training/handling as to what kind of dog you end up with. If we lived Up North, we'd probably have gotten blacks, but like Reel said, it's hot enough in the South for a yaller dog, much less a black dog since black absorbs more heat from the sun. And as Reel also noted, it's much easier to spot dirt, ticks or fleas on a yellow Lab than a black (and easier to see them at night!).

I could go on . . . a subject near and dear to my heart . . . ::)

Well guys, these pictures got me wanting another one so I called a buddy up in Georgia that has one and is real involved with a trainer/breeder in Auburn, AL. I told him to keep his ear to the ground for one. He called me back and his trainer found one. She is a 2 year old chocalate that needs a home. The current owners are moving and cant keep her. He said she is healthy loves their kids and LOVES to retrieve. He is supposed to email pics. Ill put em up if I get em.

I would prefer a pup, but have had several labs over the years I acquired as older dogs and they were wonderful pets too. I should be heading up that way this weekend to work on the hunting property. I will bring her home with me if I do. if not he is going to take care of her there till I come up.

he is checking back with em now to make sure they still have her.

Her name is "Hershey" ;D

I agree RAP, I grew up with labs and loved it!

Of course I was a boy toolin around in the woods and fishin in ponds, but still, labs are great for kids.

We have a little cocker spaniel, but he gets kinda lonely (yes he is fixed) and needs a pal too. My little girls love him, but there is just somthin about havin a big ol labrador that I think kids like. I know I did.
