teleflex cable

I am replacing my teleflex cable and helm. Does anyone know the correct cable lenght or do I need to remove the old one first. It goes directly thru the motor? It travels under the deck somewhat....not around the side. thanks for any help. Michael

Look along the cable, there is usually a length stamped or stenciled on it.
Can't remember if it is marked every foot or about a foot from the end.
