Snow???

The roof collapsed on the grocery store in town today and the pharmacy roof is leaking from the weight of all the snow. Looking like we might get a near record snow fall this year.

Snowed last night, looks like we got about 10 inches. The power went out at 9:30 and came back 3 hours later. Fired up the wood heater, never got cold inside. Still like that wood heat, its hard to beat!

We only got 2" over this way...looks like the beaches got a nice covering.

Its that nice fluffy stuff that just flys away when you brush it off your car...I can see why Yankees don't mind snow so much if its like this.

Yep, the Outer Banks got snow! I called my buddy late yesterday afternoon at KDH and he was just gettin sleet pellets. He got snow later on. Even saw pics of my favorite place Ocracoke, under a nice blanket of snow. Wish I was there!!

CNN (and most other "news" stations around here) were carrying live news coverage of the snow that shut done Atlanta, Ga. I was horrified to see the carnage.. Government, schools and businesses shut down, over 1000 accidents overnight, 1 person killed, people trapped in their cars overnight on the freeway, kids trapped in school buses for 12 hours, etc. All because of a two and a half inch dusting. Hell, up here we don't even complain if it's less than 6-8 inches.

What really got me was the National Guard, in their Hum-Vees, supplying food and water to the stranded motorists at the base of hills, etc... And then showing the major causes of the traffic tie ups.... Tractor trailers & buses unable to climb some of the hills on the interstates because the roads were not salted. So my question is: If the National Guard was able to truck in food and water to hundreds of stranded people, then WHY didn't they truck in some sand/salt and a few shovels and simply sand/salt the stretches where the trucks were having trouble? I understand that the city of Atlanta only has 30 salt trucks, etc. but there were no reports of them being out of salt and sand..so why not just load the backs of the hum-vees with salt instead of the construction sized containers of water that I saw in several reports? I mean...wtf?

Wow!! Hard to believe it snowed all the way down to Lakeland Fla. My aunt and uncle lived there. He owned a fruit orchard. Around here they spray a salty solution down on the road before it snows, seems to help when it starts to melt. It got down to 0 degrees last night, haven't seen that in a long time! Its supposed to warm up alittle this weekend and next week. I'm soooooo ready for some spring weather!!

We were out all days yesterday (Wednesday) plowing snow from business's. Started at 5am and finished at 6pm.

We were out the day before putting salt and snow melt out so it wouldn't (hopefully) let the ice stick to the asphalt.

Long cold day.

The snow pic was of the panhandle. It was brisk here last night, but nowehere near snowing. On the downside it was the same weather system dumping snow, so it was upper 30's and raining all night.

Got a little freezing rain here near Savannah. Shut down a few of the bridges. nothing on the streets to speak of. It has been COLD the last few days haven't done much outside. Highs in the low to mid 30's. I don't know how ya'll do it all winter long up north.

Yes Destroyer, they are dumdasses in Atlanta. Reminds me of New Orleans and all their flooded school buses during Katrina.
