Snapper Season Opened!

Friday was the opening day of red snapper season for 2026. Friend invited me on a trip. of course weather was a little sporty.
ended up with a limit of fish, 2 per angler. Also caught some nice beeliners(vermillion snapper).

rather that the standard fish on the dock shot, thought this looked more interesting. No monsters all between 17' & 25"

Beautiful. I got up at 0345, we were on the water at 0520, 40 minute time out due to buddy’s bow mount Minkota deciding it couldn’t hear his remote (docked and removed it), trolled until 1130, but not one bite. The fisheries guy said there were around 160 boats on the river (looked like the Walmart parking lot) and he counted 5 fish. Fishing for Spring Chinook. I do envy your fishery, but don’t begrudge you at all 😎😊

Phat - There you go again - Showing off - But you know what I say about fishing show offs - WE LOVE THEM - Nice bunch of fish - How are they to eat - Do I see fish Taco's in the making - Enjoy - 🇺🇸 ❤️ 🇺🇸 ❤️ 🇺🇸

Know what u mean,Scook. Fishing hardly ever goes according to the plan. Most of our good red snapper is 30 + miles out of our pass. The days of small single engine boats catching a limit of NICE snapper are few and far apart. Spotlock and GPS have taken a toll on the inshore spots.

this is why I mainly surf fish and wade for trout and flounder.

G, they are excellent table fare. Like most fish, the fresher the better. We fried up some friday nite. After a month or so in the freezer, then they turn into tacos.

More people fishing (insanely more around here) is definitely not helpful. The buddy I was fishing with yesterday theorizes that all of the boats blasting the fish with their sonars is probably having an effect too. The same guy spent quite a few years in Alaska - regenty mentioned one of the areas where the limit was 6 deer per person. My dad was borne in Alaska and lived there until he was about 7 when the family returned to Seattle in 1918, and talked about the Salmon runs so thick that they couldn’t get their oars in the water. Sigh😞

We were in 90'-110'. Not super deep. We had frozen northern mackeral for cut bait. Would have loved to have some live pinfish.
