Sealing a hole in fiberglass then retapping it

Did anyone use two part epoxy that you have to kneed to a clay like consistency? I want to seal up a hole that my deck hatch that is covering my fuel tank because I have a few screws that don’t hold. I hav3 this stuff that says it can be retapped. I heard marinetex is good but this stuff says the same thing
And much cheaper too

yea, done it plenty of times. If it dries completely hard, you may have to predrill, if it dries to a still somewhat pliable form, you can screw straight into it. I've rub a screw on a bar of soap, fill a hole with epoxy, stuck teh screw in it, then after it cures give it another 1/4 turn

Ive used Marinetex a few times and it worked great. They make two different kinds, one for fiberglass and one for metal. Both work good.

a good friend of mine has his 55 ft wood boat on the hill in Georgetown SC for annual repairs. Its a booze cruise boat that runs out of Charleston, SC he posted a pic of a great idea. They are running large Monel screws through thick wood planks. He had an old school wax toilet seal with screws stuck in it. He said its the cheapest and easiest wax to use on screws

Just for added grip with the two part clay like apoxy ( I think it’s called water weld or something like that) I was thinking about covering the small hole with a mesh they use on sheet rock to seal and join the seams to go over 5he holes then put on the water weld over that. What do you think? I’m not go8ng to do it probably for # months from now. March or April. After all I’m in nj. Cold weather sucks.
