Hello Gentlemen,

I’m reaching out to all of you today because I know you have V21’s. I am trying to find out how the original lounge seat operated and was hoping maybe one of you fine sea-fairing men might be able to help me. I notice in Seakindly’s, Size 5’s, and Gator Bait’s galleries that you has what looks like an original lounge seat. What I need to know is if the lounge seat itself is set on a sliding track. If so, does the track slide toward the bow to allow for unobstructed use of the fish hold? I have a feeling this is the proper set-up , and if so I would ABSOLUTELY LOVE to see what it looks like so I can fabricate something for my 1993 V21.
I’m trying to bring my boat back to its original glory and every aftermarket lounge seat requires me to fasten the seat over the fish hold with either starboard or plywood rendering the fish hold useless to some degree. I simply refuse to do this. If any of you guys have the original hardware or have a picture of the hardware or even specs/measurements I would be extremely grateful. I want to refinish the vinyl on my original seats but can’t until I know that my lounge seat will operate correctly. I’m a perfectionist and would really love to find out more about how the original lounge seat operated on these V21’s.

I would recommend putting a pedistal seat there (forward) and a cushion over the fish box lid for an additional seat. Then put one of these across the back:

Here's an old pic w/ my crappy old folding blue seats. I now have 2 new white todd 1000 helm seats.

I made the rear seat removeable for fishing.

Blue,

I really like that rear seat. Did you use the orginal metal base and have the back/transome piece fabricated? Does it screw into the rear of the boat or is it one piece? I love it,I'm definitely going to do something like that.

On the lounge seat scenario, my wife wants a lounge seat to lie down on in the sun. So, if I'm going to put one in I'm going to do it right, and this is why I was hoping you guys might have the original parts/schemtic/pics either in pictures or on your boat. Do you remember your lounge set-up at all?

And again I will definitely be priniting that picture and stealing that rear seat idea!

Well I wondered in the back of my mind if you might be trying to accomodate for the other sex by using the lounge setup. My wife has never seen the lounge seat as mine did not come with it (used), thank goodness. Nothing against the lounge, but as you have pointed out it makes it challenging to get to the fish box/livewell.

My wife does love the bench seat and I get fussed at all the time because the wood rotted inside the bench and I have not fixed it yet due to not having a shop/man cave to do it in (working on that).

The plastic insert in the transom is original. The slides that hold it in place were originally plastic and my dad made some stainless slides for me because I wanted to use the rod holders on it. I fish rod holders in it to so it needed to be sturdy to land 1000 lb blue marlin (j/k on the marlin but you never know). But sturdy enough to pull a large plug or withstand a big strike from a big dolphin or king.

The rear seat is factory of a V20. It has a welded stainless frame, very sturdy. I bought it from a member of the site. I have not seen him around for a while but his screen name is TmGovern. If you search the forum for some of his old posts you'll see more pics of the seat.

Someone should be along to help with the lounge, hopefully. Then again there aren't many active members that have V21's. Maybe a half dozen of us or so. Seakindly, Gator Bait, Buckley - I think it has been years since they were on, unless they lurk.....Dmoore, not too long ago but haven't seen him poke his nose in here in a while.

Best of luck to you sir!

AHHHHH, I see. We are a dying breed in these parts. The v21's are quite outnumbered to be sure! I will keep moving forward in my quest, I will feel a great sense of relief/accomplishment the first time I slide that lounge seat forward to put a bluefish in that holder and I will not rest until I figure out how it's done!

If Baby's stretched out over the fish-box, then you can't put the top up either...turn a chaise-lounge 90* across the sliding cuddy-hatch lid on the forward deck...she's got lots of sun up there and you got the rest of the boat to troll around and put fish in that box...I'm like Blue Runner...put another Capt's Chair there...

I agree with both of you guys, it would definitely be easier and probably more user efficient to bolt a captains chair up there and be done with it. The only problem is that for some reason that I can't explain I'm HELL BENT on figuring out this lounge seat. I really want to get this thing back to factory original and this one has me stumped. There has to be someone out there that has (or at least has pictures of) the original hardware for the lounge seat so I can see how it worked. At some point I'm going to have to just begin the fabrication process without any guides or specs. Before this I figured I'd try my luck on this site.

Good luck w/that...hope you find out...I'm havin a hard time figuring out why Wellcraft would make a back-to-back seat that covers up a tank like that...

It's the strangest thing isn't it? I'm sure there was some mechanism that allowed it to slide toward both bow for the fish hold and stern to recline. I believe that the recline even had an option to lay your head at 45 degrees, and I will try to incorporate this into the design as well. I'm going to my father's shop on Monday to talk to a few of the mechanics and see of we can't come up with something.

Great find Blue! Looks like it just has tracks and slides forward toward the bow to access the fish box. Looks more like it would be better for cooler use though than a fish box.

Why thank ya Nipster! I use mine as a fish box and for keeping larger live bait. Of course I don't have the lounge seat though, just a starboard lid on hinges covering the hole and a short pedistal seat forward. I've had several large stripers and dolphin in there and I'm able to keep many pinfish alive for as long as I need them. What I don't understand about the lounge seat sliders is it seems the front part of the lounge would be awkwardly extended forward or cantilevered is probably the better word to describe what I'm sayin.

Looks great, and plenty big enough for a fish box. What I was thinking about though was when you slide the lounge forward to open the box, and then go to put the fish in, you would get blood and slime all over the lounge seat.

Blue Runner,

THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I WANT TO REPRODUCE!!!!!!!!THAT'S PERFECT. This picture shows the sliding track that I would like to mimic. I guess it slid forward on this track, as you say, but it must have reclined down to lay out on as well. Don't you agree?

It probably did. Seat probably had a piano hinge on the top which allowed it to lay down flat with maybe a hinged leg on the back side to support the lounge.

I would think the mechanism would be much like you find in any back to back lounge seat, except that the sliding track is not mounted in the base, but rather, on the top of the fishbox. Just take a look at a conventional lounger and I bet with that in mind and the picture from the brochure you could get it fabricated.

Sorry guys, I don't get the chance to get on here much during the summer months....but I'm glad someone chimed in for ya...........now...anyone know where I can get my hands on a 1996 V-21 sales brochure???
