Oteps, you’re being unfair - I’m sure there’s a good excuse for all of those Chinese constructed buildings collapsing

My wife and I watch a Dutch gal, Itchy Boots, who rides a motorcycle around a different part of the world every season. A good watch - I recommend it. Her season in Africa showed a bunch of Chinese built asphalt roads (their belt and road projects) that were pretty short of asphalt after some use.

Look at the prices at Harbor freight and it’s clear why they don’t spend as much. They pay very little for labor and it’s not uncommon for them to not pay workers at all, have much less regulation/safety protocol and for the most part only spend on offensive stuff. They have very little need for defense, and defense has to cover so many things, so it’s a lot more expensive.

Yes …and don’t underestimate Chinese methods, such as the children’s obligatory education that includes teaching respect and effort

We could use a load of the respect and effort teaching and a lot less of the lack of discipline and consequences for bad behavior that robs students who want to learn of the opportunity.
