Pulpit install / assembly...

I have a good source of "scrap" starboard around the corner. I had thought of a "U" shaped piece and just moving the hole a bit. Maybe thats what I'll do.

Well, I have to get the pulpit done, have VIP's coming to fish Friday ;D So off to work on the boat for my "lunch" again. I didn't take alot of pics, but I got the important ones....

You can see the toothpicks that I used as spacers while the 5200 skins over.

You can also se my 12 x 13 Aluminum back plate, thanks Hammer.

You can also see the hole that I'll be covering when I reinstall my chain pipe ;)
 
Well, I know I said finished, but I've got a 10" cleat, anchor tensioner, and LED Nav lights to install yet.
 
Air, how far of a overhang you have. Also, the bolts I picked up have the rounded top. Will that cause a problem you think when trying to tighten the bolts downs. What lenght bolts. I have 4" bolts. Thats all West Marine had in stock at the time. Guess you used 3" bolts ??
 
Hammer I used carriage bolts and had no problem!!

And I Just used some 3 x 3 backing plates, wow that thing is going no were with that plate!!

Yep, I remember.  I used 3" bolts, and they were cheaper at Ace Hardware.  As for overhang, I didn't really check for dimension.  It clears an 8lb Danforth by several inches and I hope it clear the 13.  To give you another idea, the rear-most bolts for the roller are about 1.5" from the bow.

I figure I should be fine with any anchor I need. I know my wreck anchor will work as well.

I wanted to keep the overhang as short as possible for leverage reasons.
 
Seen you didnt care to much about the carpet. Good, I dont plan on being that neat trying to cut out that ceiling carpet for the backing plate. ;D
 
Oh, the carpet, what a disaster that was.  I thought I had made a nice neat cut...when I went to pull it out, its only tucked behind the liner.  I could have pulled it all out with very little effort...and I just may.

One other thing, there is a whole tube of 5200 under that rascal ;)  Between that and the 4 3/8" bolts, the boat will go down before the pulpit lets go :o
 
I have a fresh tube of 5200 as well. Just need to get out and get three more bolts off. Bought a bigger cleat today as well. ;)
 
OK, time for another update and a fresh round of pics ;D

Here is the cleat.  For me, it has to go on the pulpit, as with the hatch open there is no more room:

As for my mounting location, its fine.  I tried 3 different anchors and all clear the boat fine.  If there is a clearance problem, it will be the bow rail as the anchor self launches.  Here are a couple anchor pics.  8# danforth, 13# danforth, and my wreck anchor.

If you look at the lenght of the three differnet anchors, it looks like I may not be able to use the tensioner that I have. I may have to go with a locking pin type. In a perfect world, the pulpit would be about 4" longer, but I'm very satisfied with the way things are going.

Let me bounce an idea off you guys.

How about if I mounted the tensioner on the center line all the way back, and a big ol cleat on each side, such as between my mounting bolts????????

I have to get a cleat on by morning so I can taker her feeshin ;)

Sounds good to me, Slot...matter of fact, off-settin' just one cleat would do it for me...I wouldn't feel a need to have one on each side...assumin' yer right-handed, I'd put it on the right of the tensioner ;) ...


...and that may have been called a "Wreck Anchor" back in the old days...but today's modern mariner would refer to that as a "Norton-Snagger"...looks much like Franco's original 8) 8) ...
 
Alright, here is the new proposed pulpit setup:

So watcha think.  I'll probably put a cleat on each side, just for balance.  Had I known I was going this direction, I'd have used 8" cleats instead of 10". Also, after further consideration, I don't really like my chain tensioner.  Think I'm going to use one of these instead:

So, before I fire up the drill, any opinions?
 
Cleat side ways and wrapthe chain around once, it will never go any were and need no tenision or holder.
 
For Pete's sake Slot you are worse than a woman! Make up your mind!

Just kiddin bud, looks nice. There is definitely Pulpit envy goin on right now in NC. On the V21 the hatch slides a good bit more forward so I'd have to "engineer" a solution much like member Seakindly did. In short it aint gonna happen cause I think it will look too gaudy anyway to build it up over the hatch. :-/

I'll focus on adding in my extra 20 gallon fuel tank for now. ;)
 
Thanks guys. I figure I get one shot to do it right. No do-overs when working with starboard. I don;t want to have the chain on the cleat, as the cleat will be used more often for lines. So unless I change my mind in the next 4 hours, it will be as pictured above.

Damm AIR, sorry to see our starboard being short on distance. I was thinking the same thing and thought about running cleats on either side for balence.
I wont have it done before the weekend. taking the V out for a photo shoot of my buddy power sailing Business on Sat. Maybe Monday I'll have ger done. Or work through the night tonoght with the spot light. 'NOT". Great pics. She's looking good, you will figure something out. ;)
