please forgive my ignorance

I got my lower unit replaced on the zuke DT 150 and took the v to the lake for a cruise. With 4 adults onboard, it was maxing out at 6700 rpms if the tach is accurate. Just going by what I am reading here, it would appear that I may need a different prop, what do you think?

I would check the tach first if it was me. Since you say it is a DT150 it most likely has a rev limiter in it that would have shut it down to 3000 if it went up that high in the RPM's for anytime. Also are you sure you got the right lower unit back on it? There are 2 or 3 different lower units that will fit on that engine if it's a 20" shaft.

that is what I was afraid of

it just seems to be geared lower than before. I found a used lower unit in Morgan city that came off of a 200 hp motor and in my ignorance drove all of the way to get it without asking about the length of the shaft. The lower unit seemed to be just right, but when i got back with it my mechanic informed me that it has a 25 inch shaft. Then I found one in Lafayette that came off of an older model dt150 and it too looked right so i brought it back (after measuring the shaft) and it went on the boat and works right, the boat just doesn't have the speed that it had before, especially at the lower rpms.

The later model V-6's all had the 1.86:1 gear ratio, but prior to about 01 or so in the 150's they offered a few different ratios for the bass boat guys in the 150 20" shaft. It could be a 2.17:1?(or somewhere along that ratio) I believe which would give you a big jump in RPM's.

From what I found, they list the late model 150's as 5200-6000 for WOT RPM's, BUT SUZUKI's reve limiters are VERY good and WILL shut her down somewhere around those RPM's. I thought it was 500 over redline for 3 seconds and it would shut down to 3000, and it would limit it to about 6700-6800 MAX RPM's. I don't know this for certain, but I do know that SUZUKI's electronics are some of the best at protecting your engine.

they should be good, they are pretty expensive.

It depends on it you were running 20 mph or 50 @ 6700 rpms.
