plastic fuel tank questions

I had one custom built out of aluminum, can't find my original drawing with specs after digging through all my receipts since I've owned her, (don't ever add them up what ever you do). That price actually isn't too bad coming from West Marine. I 5200ed mine to pressure treated 2 x 4's which were 5200ed to the bilge. If I did it again I'd get one like that one and foam it in on the corners leaving a wide channel underneath and the ends as well as the middle of the sides open to allow some additional airflow. In humid areas you get a lot of tank sweat with the heating and cooling of the atmosphere and foaming them in completly traps that moisture and corrodes aluminum and accelerates rotten stringers and decks.

Good idea with a new engine coming. Mine is 55 gallons and is more than enough for what i do especially with the new fuel efficient engine. I could get by with 20 gallons and still be more than good. Have you ever removed yours? LOL Have fun, I'll try to find my post where I describe it.

Here it is, post #12.

And Wholesale Marine has it for $364 + free shipping.

phat, get to the tank and get the dimensions and compare it to the various ones Moeller makes. This is their site with dimensions, click on diagram for even more info.

See which ones will fit back in place easily.
Then find the Moeller numbers (in this case that 55 gallon is 032555) and compare the tanks cost as to your needs.
For instance (from the above mentioned site) the 55 gallon Moeller 032555 is $363.35 but a 60 gallon Moeller 032560 is $519.19.
Here is a hold down kit by Moeller

but depending on the situation I may be inclined to be a little more inventive, such as bradford did.

thanks pete, after reading your original post, i'm not sure if the moeller will fit my cavity. mine is an 86. it is located just ahead of the splashwell, then the fishbox. like the pics nymack has in your thread. is that the way yours is laid out .

yea, just went out & measured my tank hatch, its 44" x 31", so i guess a plastic off the shelf is not available.

Here is a pic of mine when I put in the plastic tank.

I looked for the thread, but cant find it.

I am pretty sure I used "Great Stuff" foam, it hasn't moved yet.

I got it from Flounder Pounder in Fla. It is only 40 gallons, which has worked out fine for me with the Johnzuki (5 mpg +/-), but may not serve your needs.

I think it cost me $160 total.
