Old Gas

How do I pump out the old gas from a V21 StepLift??

Can I just run a hose in the filler tube & pump it out with an electric fuel pump??? Or hook the pump to the output hose & use the bulb to prime it?

Or is there a better way??/

Thanks,

No electric pumps!!!!! A hand pump is preferable and must be one made for transfer of gasoline.

Third, I pumped out my V21 last year. I unhooked the fuel line behind the primer bulb and attached another fuel line w/ primer bulb to the line running to the tank. The fuel line was long enough to reach the ground where I pumped the fuel with the primer bulb into 3 - 5 gallon tanks. 14 gallons is all I had to pump out. I used it all in my mower last summer....worked great!

You don't say how old the gas is. If it's turned to shelac make sure you dispose of it properly. If it's just old, mix it with new gas and use it in your lawnmower.

You can use an electric pump if it says it's safe for transfering gasoline. Stick the pickup hose down into the tank. If you hook the pickup hose to your bulb you run the risk of leaving some of the old gas behind. Most tanks are built with the pickup just slightly higher than the bottom of the tank to avoid picking up any sediment or water that may condense in there. You want to get as much of the old gas, water, shelac, dirt, etc. as possible, and that means going to the bottom of the tank.

After you pump it make sure to put in a new fuel/water filter before you start your engine to collect any crud that may have been missed. The last thing you want is for that junk to get into the carbs.

Red skys at night..

Holley Blue

I use a left over Holley Blue race car fuel pump to transfer fuel etc... No worries, I would not use a GP elec pump....

BS and I just pumped 110 gals out of my boat!!

Just hooked to hose from water separator with a fuel rated elt pump, worked like a charm!

But we now had 110 gal of gas in like 5 gal jugs, BS also filled his car and truck as did my kids! LOL They all burned it just fine and have gone back to stright gas now.
BS still has like 40+ gal in his garage to put in his boat when its ready
