1988 150 Mercury black max 2 stroke,,,,,,today I had a very hard start trying to start the motor, start and conk out Smoked a very lot like the plugs were loaded with 2 stroke oil, after a couple of minutes I got her running the smoke cleared out after about 5 minutes, what would cause a 2 stroke oil injection system to get flooded with oil? Any help would be appriciated Thanks
 
Everytime you spin the crankshaft, you are pumping oil into system and with engine not running , it does not burn the oil you are pumping.

Does that motor have a choke or the enricher valve
 
Yes it does, when you push in the ignition let it activates the Enricher valve, but I think I remember having a problem years ago and I had to change a one way check valve but I can't remember , and I did notice that my inline fuel filter is coloered blue , the same color as the oil.
 
Overfilling your oil tank can also cause this on a Merc. Mercury pressurizes the oil tank via a hose with a checkvalve in it on the bottom cylinder. If you overfill the tank with oil, start the engine, shut it off without using much oil, as the pressure in the tank bleeds off through the checkvalve, oil will pump back into the engine as the pressure supply hose is lower than the filler on the tank. Learned this one the hard way on my XRI when I put the oil injection back on it to sell it. Guy showed up to see it run and I ended up smoking out the yard.
 
Ferm,I can't believe you said that. The reason I said that is when the last time I started and ran my engine and shut her down I filled the oil resivoure to the top than that's when I had the problem with the oil flooding ,since then I started her up and no issues she runs perfect,the only thing that I did was fill the oil tank to the brim than a couple of days later that's when she wouldn't start,,,,,,,thank you for the reply to my issue,,,you are the best.

Ferm if you ever relocate to nj Let me know you will me my mechanic for sure
 
Zero chance, that's not to promising ,I guess I will just have to move out there. I will be the guy with my wellcraft in tow ..maybe I can move next to you, my boat will love it so will I .

So NOT FUNNY! 2 years ago I lived in the country on a dirt road, now I live on a paved road, fancy tennis center a 1/4 mile away, 2 developments almost completed across the street(87 units in one and 92 in the other), and Lennar homes is destroying my back yard including a documented Seminole Indian camp to put in 650 units including gated bungalows (fancy apartments), townhomes, single family homes, and talk of building an international tennis village for the tennis center. To top it off the people from the tennis center bought the 30 acres to the west and north of me, and my niece is going to sell her place on the east of me to them so they can connect the 30 acres to the paved road(just for spite she's doing it), so it won't be long before I'm forced out of my home so these yankees can buy "cheap houses" down here compared to where they left driving our prices to the point I can't afford property in Florida. And it's all license plates from blue states that I see lining these developments. I'm just a tad bit pissed about all of this knowing I'm probably going to lose the property I grew up on because they've already bought, oops, I mean found a judge to handle the eminent domain of our land so they can turn that 30 acres into 40+.
 
Don't worry Ferm , I see you live in Florida and Florida real estate is booming. Put your home up for sale and relocate if you can't find a house in Florida I can get you a very nice house a cross the street from me for only $495000 and you have parking for two cars and property tax is cheap too only $10000 a year The only downfall is you will be my neighbor.
