This is Hyannis Harbor this morning.
A coast Guard cutter choped all the ice to the outer harbor so the ferrys can get in and out. But as you can see the smaller boats won't be moving to soon!!

Well, if there were any Herring in that pen, they're a frozen block of ice now!
Yum! Herring Popsicles! ;D Nothing better. Well, maybe a Pogie Popsicle.

how do the tides rise and fall w/all that ice around pier posts ??? does it just tear stuff up or what....crack hulls?...i gots ta know ;D

Yeah, it can definately crack hulls. The ice flows can actually lift pilings right up and out of the bottom. When the tide drops and ice forms around the pilings, it takes hold, then when the tide comes back in, it'll lift it. Over an extended time, it'll take it's toll. Usually, most marinas, or at least boat owners will keep a circulator in the water next to their boat to keep the water moving therefore preventing freezup around the hull.
