Went out last night after work with a friend on his boat and another friend. Skipped out of work early and was in the water down in Sayreville by just after 4:00. Intel from the night before had nice bass about a mile off the beaches around the Highland Bridge and north.....so our plan was to start there and then work our way back up into the bay towards home....
Out around the hook, the rips, the tower, no real signs of life....couple of head boats and a few others were parked out there but nothing doing.....spent an hour easy burning gas looking for marks.....
Started our way back into the bay and spotted the birds working some bait starting at about the beginning of the Ammo pier channel, west of Roamers.....fishfinder showed marks everywhere.....we were in the middle of full on bass blitz before we knew it....between the 3 of us we pulled in about 15 fish in 1/2 and hour and then the birds dispersed and we pulled up another 15 or so over the next 1 1/2 hours working the same drift a few times.....out of the 30 fish we dont think there was one short and not a single bluefish either!.....no cows just yet either but all good 30" to 36" fish. Everything was caught using big Shad swimbaits....white seemed to be better than chartreusse and a real slow retrieve around the bottom seemed to be working a little better than other speeds.
We each kept one and the rest went back... I pulled an MJ and forgot the camera in the car but there wounldnt have been time to use it anyway...... an awesome night for sure....
