New Power

I would forget about 4 stroke vs. 2 stroke and just get as much motor as you can afford. I wouldn't trade my 1999 225 High Output Johnson (240+hp) for the most expensive 140 4 stroke. It is pretty awesome to be able to cruise in the old 1985 V20 at the same speeds as these new high powered bay boats I see on every bayou. I had a flat boat that would only cruise in the low to mid 20's. Considering the extensive marsh and open water I fish in SE Louisiana, I think a good cruising speed is crucial. This adds up to more fishing time and more fun driving. Sometimes the V20 rides better in a bay chop at 38-40 mph than 25mph. go figure. I am not putting down a smaller outboard, it's just that more speed fits my application of the V20. Hope this helps....by the way, going 55mph in a v20 is scary. There is not much boat left in the water! Only in an emergency.
