Hellow to all, I just found the site and had to check it out I have a 74 v20 that I am about to get started on (sorry no pics yet) we have had the boat for a couple of years but haven't put it in the water yet not long after we got it dad had some heart problems and everything was put on hold once he got over that we went from 0-120 at the plant (we work at the same place, shift work) it seamed like over night and that I am glad to see. Me and him both have been working so much over time that we haven't had any time for the boat but I am changing jobs at the plant coming off shifts in a few day going in to the maint. dep. a 7-3:30 job and I am very happy about that (so is my wife and the kids) so I will get started soon. The boat is in decent shape for it's age but needs some soft spots repaired in the floor and a lot of TLC it has a 140 tohatsu hanging on it that seams to run good. I don't know much about tohatsus but I get to responses when I tell people what kind of engine I have on it. Thay either tell me that it will run forever or thay look at me with a strange look and say "it has a what on it" so if any one has any knoledge that thay would like to share about tohatsu I'm all ears
 
Welcome to the madness. Where abouts are you from? You'll love your boat I'm sure once you get her up and running. Cant comment on you engine but I'm sure some of the resident motor heads will chime in shortly.
 
Welcome to the site. I had small tohatsu kicker motor on my sailboat. They are made by nissan. The thing was old, looked like crap, but it ran great. That's all I have.
 
Hi and wellcome to the site. Cannot comment on the outboard engine, but I can tell you from direct experience that their earthmoving equipment is top rate. (Excavators, Dozers and the like) If that is any indication of the company as a whole you should have no problems. Make sure you check the transom of that boat... if it has soft spots in the floor then it's prudent to check the transom also. :beer:

I live in Pendacola, FL born and raised here grew up fishing the rivers and bays around the house here but just recently started going off shore with some guys at work and I'm hooked now I got to get out there. I'll be shore to check that transum out good, to be honest I always go in expecting the worst and hoping for the best so we will see what when I get in to it. Like I said I know the floor needs repair and I have never done any fiberglass work on boats befor, I have done some on cars so I'm not compleatly ignorant but I'm pritty close to it. So any tips on fiberglass once again I'm all ears
 
all right, another gulf cost member, i'm 100 miles east of you. i have a 40 tohatsu on a scallop boat and have had no problems(that i didn't cause with bad gas and running it hot). my motor has NO hot horn or low oil sensor. i found out on the hot horn the hard way. the biggest problem i have found is most all parts have to be ordered. i called 5 or 6 dealers looking for a water pump and finally located one in tallahassee. it is just as easy to look up parts on the website and and wait 3 days, that's all the dealers do.

I was beginning to wonder if I had the only one thay made or somthing. mine is a 2000 modle what year is yours, and is it oil injected. I'm not very trusting of oil injection a friend of mine blew up a nice yamaha 90 because his oil pump quit. I don't know if he didn't hear the alrm or if it was broken or what. I like putting oil in the gas that way I know it's there I even run a little rich plugs are cheep compared to outboards
 
Lots of guys on here will tell you to immediately disconnect the oil injection system and do the pre-mix thing. I do not know anything about Tohatsu outboards, so I cannot help you with that. I believe I ran a thread a long while back asking about Tohatsus just because I was curious and got responses saying they make really good small outboards, but no one weighed in on the larger models such as yours. Try putting in Tohatsu in the search function. Good luck with it and welcome to the site.
 
mine is oil injected and a 2003 model, carbed, super simple to work on. i have 126 hours on it ( we only use it in july & august to scallop out of and once a week oct-may to check stone crab traps). i also have a 94 merc w/ 1300 hours on my v that still has the oil injection system. i think there is a forum for tohatsu on iboats.

I hear the same thing about the smaller tohatsu. I'v done some serching on the net. and I belive the biggest one you can get now is a 115hp. But I'm thinking I'll go the premix way and do away with the injection I just don't trust it. If I put it in the gas I now it's getting oil. I'm glad to hear that there simple to work on because my wife tells me I'm simple minded all the time. She likes to over complicat things especialy things that she dosen't have to do.But anyway thanks for your thoughts gentalman
