New Floor In Cuddy

When I was thinkin of gettin this 21, I realized the floor in the cuddy was SHOT and would have to be replaced...ripped out all the carpet and tore out all the old wood...cut the remaining fiberglass floor out down to the stringers, leaving a glass lip around the edge to reattach new floor...these pics not too good, but hopefully you can see kinda what's happenin here...

That fresh wood Ridge brought up from FL when he came to get the 74...whacked it up, glued it and screwed it complete w/new hatch-lids...now I gotta find something, (bedliner?) to coat it with...a work in progress to be sure :head:
 
Nice! Mine was just painted with house paint and was good for 9 years, but was getting old when I got rid of it.
Bed liner should work great!
 
Nice work, a question on install

My 79's floor is in need of a new floor as well. Design is different with the floor opening the width of the door, and about 3 feet or so long.

I'm wondering, but can't tell from the pictures, how did you setup the hatches to sit in flush with the floor, do you have a ring below that overlaps for them to sit on?

I'm thinking that basic design will work well for mine.

Oh yea, how did you assemble the floor overall. I know I can't get a single piece in through the hatch into my cuddy, so expect at least it'll be 2 maybe 3 pieces assembled together ultimately to fit it all in.
 
When I had the floor of my bass/flats boat done, I covered both sides of the marine plywood w/ epoxy and sprayed the deck w/ Line-X. It looks great, it's nonskid, and I can drop anything without damage.

First I demoed everything outta the cuddy down to the stringers...left a 3" lip around the outter edge to attach the new floor to...the new material went back in as 3 pieces...first was a single piece that glued and screwed down to the tops of the stringers that became the lip for the lids to rest on...it's kinda like a squared figure 8..then the front piece w/openings cut 1" larger than the fig 8...then the back piece, cut same for openings...took all of one sheet of ply and 1/3 of second so you'll need 2...
 
That is nice looking work - did you cut the hatches out with a jigsaw, just taking your time and being real careful?

Thanks for teh input Reel. I think this may be my next project. I also have a small 'floor' piece down pretty much at water level that has completely rotted out. I want to put something in there so there's somekind of cover above the hull itself. Actually thinking of getting a heavy, perforated rubber mat like I've seen in restaurant kitchens so it'll keep stuff above the water, but also protect the hull from heavy stuff down in there.

Cut the straights w/a circular saw and around the corners w/a jigsaw...then an orbital sander rounds 'em off smooth...but what really sweetens the deal is a router w/a 1/8" roundover bit...:sun:
 
Here's a shot of the lid support lip created by the fig 8 web I described above...leaves about 1" all the way around the hatch...

Plus I upsized the lids to as wide as I could make 'em for easier access to the stuff in there...

Yeah, sometimes I forget how much of a pro look the roundover bit produces - nice work.
 
Hello,
I have a 94 V-21 with a rotten cuddy floor which is 3 hours away. I have a 4 x 8 sheet of marine plywood at home and no pick up truck. Can you tell me what rough dimensions to rip the sheet of plywood into for transport in a suv. Thanks
