Matthew claims the Pipe Dream

She went under (mostly) tied to the dock. Just got back on the island today to find her that way. Filed a claim with BoatUS and will see what they say. We are thankful that our house was spared from major damage. The island is a mess. Will try to add sad pics tomorrow. Any advice on insurance claims and salvage would be greatly appreciated.

UGH!! Very sorry to hear about your boat. But on the good side, as you said, your home and your family were spared. And truly that's the most important thing. As far as the boat goes, they are remarkably resilient. Unless there was major structural damage (Hull breach for example) there's no reason to scrap her. The engine is another story, best told by Ferm or Spare. But I would think the Pipe Dream herself may be salvagable.

the good news is, you have insurance and i've heard boatus is the best one to deal with. the only experience i've had is a key largo that sank at the dock due to getting caught under the stringers at low tide, then when tide came in, flooded over the transom. we were able to drag it to the hill and pump the water out. once re-floated, put it on the trailer and got it home. boatus declared it total loss, paid the owner and sold him back the salvaged hull.

not sure of how much value u insured, but hull is probably ok.

Sorry to hear. So long as you get the hull pumped out fairly quickly, it should be fine, the hpdi is another story. I would suspect eeverything electrical as well as the high pressure fuel system is done for.

Good luck Pipe, sorry to hear about your loss. I lost my Bertram 28 to Sandy. Boat US paid the declared value. Good luck my friend

The "Pipe" has been one of my all time favorites on this forum since day one...a real heartbreaker...my hope is you can breathe new life back into her...

Looking back at the restoration pics of the Pipe Dream is like a stroll down memory lane...she's perfect!

Can't recall if that was re-gel coated or painted?...whichever...would you do the same again, given the choice?

Wow I'm so sorry for you pipedream but I'm sure she can be cleaned up and ready to sale another day The good news is nobody was hurt and everything can be replaced, you can fix her and I'm 100 percent sure we can help you with spare parts we have a nod great advice
Hand in there brother

sorry to hear this news .... but glad your home was spared. two of my brothers were under water from sandy an one lost his 34 Silverton I feel your pain pipe.

Thanks, everyone. I'm waiting for a fellow who comes highly recommended to have a look at her and tell me first if she's sound and second what we're looking at to bring her back. Reel, we awlgripped her back in 2004 when we repowered. Everything the insurance company will give for her would go toward re powering and rewiring, but wouldn't cover it all. I would have to come up with the additional plus cost to do repairs. She was overinsured but not by enough to cover all that. Will have to weigh all this and decide. Spent a LOT in 2004, don't know how much sense it makes to do it again. Of course, we're talking about a boat so how much sense does it have to make??

Sorry I haven't gotten back sooner but still no phone or internet so this is via my smart phone and I am not very good with it, but getting better. I appreciate everyone's input.
