kicker recommendations

I fired up the Evinrude 185 for the first time this weekend to clean the carbon out and it seemed to run pretty smooth. Since I'll be relying on a 1984 outboard, I was thinking of making use of this pre-existing kicker mount. Any recommendations on what HP and/or brand to go with? (I was thinking OMC)

I use a Honda 4 banger 9.9 Simple, reliable, works.. .. I also have a British Seagull 5 hp stowed in the cuddy. Just in case......:head:

I also have a Honda 9.9hp. Starts right up will slow down under 1mph and up to 5.5mph wide open. Not all that fast but it sure beats a tow. Great for trolling 1.5mph.

I may check back with you on that. I think that may be one of my last purchases. A friend has a 6HP he'll let go for next to nothing and I was wondering if that would cut it.

I tried a 6 hp Evinrude for kicker on a 17 Aquasport. I used it once when the 115 quit, pushed my boat about 3 mph flat calm seas. After that boat I always carried a bigger kicker or had twins. I've had a 9.9 four stroke and 25 two stroke since then, both worked well. I doubt a 6 hp kicker would move a V20 if you were going against any wind or waves. I sold the 9.9 Yamaha four stroke for $500 to a guy with a 30' sailing cat.

I think it really depends on what you want it to do. 6 hp may be a little small, but if you want it just for trolling slowly I think maybe you'd be OK. I wouldn't want to rely on it to get me home.

If your friend will let it go for next to nothing and you've already got the bracket on your stern, I don't see where you have much to lose.
