I still have some rigging to connect. But that won't take long. I'm probably going to move the batteries to the cuddy to balance out the extra weight. I can't wait to get it in the water for a sea trial. Oh and I also got a designated trailer for old spongie too. For free!

SWEEEET!! that is a big motor how much more does it weigh than the yamaha , also what ya doin with the old yamaha

the sticker on the motor says it weighs 517lbs. But the Mercury factory service manual says 460 something if I remember right. My old Yamaha is probably 430 ish. I'm gonna sell the Yammie. Included will be an extra gearcase, clamp bracket, tach, key switch, oil tank, and all wiring. Check the classified section in a few minutes.

looking good pete....horse power ????? we know the yammie was a wolf in sheeps clothing..

It's a 2007 225 Optimax with 1033 hours. It came off one of the towboats I work on. I worked out a deal with my boss that he couldn't resist. My old 225 Yammie was giving me problems last year so I removed it and bought a fully dressed 150 powerhead from Barnegatv20. So it is a proper 150.

You have any updates on the little racer Capt Pete?

No real updates to speak of. I acquired a 70 Yamaha for it. But that's it. The motor is on a stand in my shop and the Bullet is sitting in my back yard. I need to finish my VW and my dad's boat before I can start any other project. The car is about 75% done. And my dad's boat is only about halfway done.

I blink for a minute and WOW!!...Spongey sportin' a freakin' 225 OPTI!!...I would think she's a lil stronger than the 225 Yam and I KNOW she'll burn less fuel!!...those Optis are STRONG motors, but good on fuel!...Nicks 28' cat w/twin 200s used to run 60 miles out, troll all day and back in on 90 gals...NOBODY was doin' that at the time.

Yer gonna love that!!...

well so far so good. I launched the boat Saturday. I started with the same prop I used with the 225 Yamaha. A 19" Laser. I ended up at 46 knots hitting the rev limiter. Today I tried a 19" revolution 4. The cruise rpm's were better but it was too rough to open it up. Maybe tomorrow. Your right Ozzie the fuel consumption is good. About the same as the old 150.

that motor should have enough torque to spin up a mirage(I'd guess 21P), unless you need the bow lift that laser is giving you

I agree. The XS250 puts the 21 Thunderbolt (Mirage without the vent holes)on the limiter relatively easy even with 4 people on board. It is a little slower on top than the Tempest but a better cruising prop IMO.

I started with the Laser only because it's what I had with the 225 Yamaha. The rev 4 had a great cruise and a top end of 45 kts and 5600 or so rpms. I might fool around some more with props as I find them on customer's boats at my marina. I think I can get ahold of a 21 Mirage and a 21 Tempest.

A Mirage on my Honda hit ALL the numbers...except it was haevy and created a slight rattle in the lower unit at idle speed...dropped down 1/4" dia on Power Tech prop w/same specs as the Mirage and BINGO...kept all the numbers and rattle gone...considering the store you get to shop from, I know you'll come across Mr RIGHT pretty soon...

Has the extra weight shown up anywhere?

My waterline only went down about 3/4" at the transom. I haven't moved the batteries to the cuddy yet. I found a 35 Triton in out warehouse with triples. The starboard engine has a 21" Tempest and the center engine has a 21" Mirage. More prop testing to follow.
