honda bf 130 hp what do you guys think?

Reel ran a Honda 150(?). It did good for him, but I believe it was on the heavy side, from what I've seen about Honda outboards around here, they corrode pretty bad

The 130 to the 150 is like night and day. now if i remember correctly they had a 135 that was the same as the 150. Anyway, the BF130 has a serviceable timing belt and no v-tec. The 150 has a chain and has v-tec. If it were me I wouldn't get the 130. They seem to have more corrosion issues than the never models based off the k20 honda engine. Plus they don't make the power that the 150 does. That is depending on the price and condition of the 130. If its really clean and really cheap then give it a shot. You won't be going any wheres fast but it should do ok.

we have 3 boats with twin 130's at towboat us. They have literally thousands of hours on them. They are heavy and slow. But they are over built and will probably outlast your boat. We dont have a real problem with corrosion though. Maybe it's because they are underway more than they are at the dock.

Yeah I work for TowBoatUS in Manasquan NJ. I have been with them since 2000. I worked for Sea Tow from 1992-2000. At first I hated the Hondas but they have proved themselves over and over to be a reliable motor. There is a v20 running around here with a 130. It doesn't look too bad.
