I am new to the site
Just recently purchased a 1982 V20 Steplift cuddy. I like to think I got a steal on it. I am in the process of replacing the blown Evinrude 175.. I paid $600 for the boat on a easy roller trailer. Just purchased a DT140 Suzuki with oil injection.

My question is: do you guys think I am too underpowered now? I mainly salmon and walleye fish in Michigan

Btw WELCOME to the site... We are mostly grumpy old men here but we are a brotherhood.... Lots of good folks from all walks of life... No matter the problem, most likely someone knows the solution or how to find it.

A 140 hp outboard on V20 will run great ...........lot's of them set up with that power range.

Even a couple of guys running triple 9.5 hp outboards on their V's for fishing offshore.




Ok, ok, of course I'm kidding.
 
The dt140 is pretty peppy and plenty of power to puush a v20. You'll be fine powerwise, and it's a pretty light engine which helps to.

Hi and welcome aboard. :beer:

I'll echo pretty much what everyone else already said.. The 140 is a fine size for a V20. Remember that these boats came stock from the factory set up with 150 engines. And the Suzuki is pretty much acknowledged as being a very strong engine.. some would say it's underrated for it's size. You'll be fine with it. And since you're going to be using it in the great lakes you won't have to worry about salt water corrosion, which is probably the Suzuki's only real problem.

Oh, and remember, we love boat porn on this site, so any pics you feel like posting of your boat or some beautiful fish that committed suicide on your fishing line are always welcome...
 
I will have plenty of pics when this project is complete. I did manage to get the motor started last night, seems to idea well but besides that hopefully this weekend will tell more. I love the hull design on this boat6 and for the most part I have just put a ton of elbow work into it.

I started this project to help bring my family closer, my brother is in rough shape due to MS so I am really looking forward to getting him out for some family fishing time..
