Healthcare Debacle

OMG - Health Insurance Navigator at work now. 29 yr old woman non-smoker incapable of ever having a child, (ie. ovaries on the bench) $177/month pre-Obamacare. Post Obamacare $323/month with a $3000 deductible $6000/yr out of pocket. Thanks Pelosi Reid and the rest of the libertards that had some unrealistic expectations of what the government could do. Perhaps we should have read the legislation before passing it into law after all. Of course it is going to cost more, the government and all the waste they generate is standing in the way of affordability.

Small groups under 50 will now be rated for age and smoking instead of getting the same rate across the board, same goes with their spouse and children. Working class can expect a 30% increase in premiums next year. Agent will need to sit down and go through each and every persons plan individually instead of averaging it out and having the same rate for all employees and their spouse. It wouldn't be as worrysome if the premiums would be less...

Young people are going to have to pay a lot more than ever before for basic coverage. They simply won't participate in the system and pay a penalty. For every person signing up there will be 2 leaving the system.

We pay 90% of our employees premiums as a small business. With a big increase in premium that will no longer be a tenable arrangement.

Heres a good read on the shutdown and how good ocare is. I'm scared to see what ours goes up to when my wife goes in the end of the month to talk with her advisor about it. We already pay close to $10K a year with a $3K per person deductible for a family of 3(my wife is 27, I'm 32, and a 1 year old). I'm getting scared that they will uprate mine with my pre existing conditions. Right now they don't count against me because I haven't had any problems with them in over 5 years, but I have a feeling now they will be able to use them to charge us more.

we pay for our own health insurance as we are retired. i got the notice of what our NEW HEALTH CARE PLAN will cost. a whopping 70% more a mounth!!!!!! thats right 70%more!!!!!! thanks i may now go and look for a job to help offset the cost! this SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And people wonder why I've been ranting and railing all these months against the DEMOCRATS and their health care socialism. You guys are just seeing the TIP of the iceberg that is floating our way. Put on your life jackets. This could very well sink USS America. HEY!!! ARE YOU LISTENING TO ME NOW????

Check with Humana. I have it on authority that they have some good deals for retirees.

Individual policies get hit with the hike before the group plans will.

Penalty for not paying for coverage is expected to ramp up. In 2014 it is $95 for adults $47.50 for a child or 1% of your gross pay whichever is greater. In 2015 it is $325 for adults and $162.50 per child or 2% of your gross. 2016 it is $695 adult or $347.50 per child or 2.5% of your gross. When you opt out you won't know what the penalty is until the date of enrollment is long past, so your screwed either way. I just love the fact that out government has put a fee on children whose parents work to support them. What a slap in the phucking face for the working class. None of this applies to the deadbeats on welfare. They pay nothing, ever. So we just increased the load on the working/taxpayer. Expanding the Medicaid program to include millions of additional enrollees who contribute bupkiss. (Florida did not go this route actually)

According to the healthcare guru we spoke with today, nothing in stone yet but the group rates from Aetna are going up, Ballpark of 30%.

Hard to wrap your mind around 30% increase in premium every year with declining coverage and lots more out-of-pocket to boot. That is what we have seen every year since they passed this tripe. So it is compounding.
I know I sound like a broken record. On the record, the system it is broken.
Smoke- Maybe the co-conspirators to this could be hung for treason. I have been saying that for a while.

Please, somebody chime in and tell me about a real life success story regarding O-care. This is depressing, which may require meds.

Ferm,
I think about you every day. How you are suffering with your hip. I hope and pray you good health my friend. I am gonna call you but don't want to be a PITA to you and Patrick. Call me when you get free, 1-800-282-3178.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Never said anything to the contrary. Just had to wait 3 years for the unread legislation to half-arse take effect.

Trying to get by. I'm considering breaking down and getting a cortisone shot in my hip as I can't have the surgery until January at the soonest, and right now it is friggen agonizing trying to walk for more than a 100 yards or so.

By now, I am sure there are at least one anecdotal case of an uninsured successfully signing up. I heard North Carolina had ONE person sign up in October. So to make it all seem merely horrible, the govt. announced today that they are going to produce the numbers of sign-ups for October. The only rub is the numbers they will use will be the total number of people who have put a policy in their shopping cart. Really? Not quite the same as successfully enrolled is it? They are still trying to spin it up to something tolerable. It is an EPIC FAIL.
I can tell you of another case where a single mother of 2 just got her health care policy cancelled because it didn't meet the Obama criteria. Replacement coverage went up 5 times her old premium and she makes enough ($31K) that there is no help from a tax standpoint. She can't go to the Marketplace because her premium isn't quite 9.75% of her gross pay. So the working class gets a 9.75% increase in their taxes before the guberment will allow her to go out and shop for a cheaper premium. That is equivalent to a 400% increase in her Federal Income Taxes. She will just pay the penalty of $95 and go a year with no health care coverage for herself. The two kids are insured through Florida Kid Care and the premium is yet to be determined.
Just how is the healthcare affordable? and how could you ever say this has helped to insure the 15% of Americans that don't have insurance? Your loosing more to cancellations than you will be capable of signing up by the January deadline. The numbers don't lie. Anyone with a notion that the government could administer this efficiently needs to have their head checked.
So thanks Pelosi, Obama, Reid and the rest of the Dems that voted for this POS. Might should have read the bill before signing it. The old bait and switch. Turns out the Republicans were correct on so many levels. We laid down with dogs, now how to get rid of these fleas? What will it all cost ? A couple trillion, China must have some deep pockets. The sit back and watch Obama's Socialist Experiment that just blew up in his face. I am guessing now that this is the primary reason AHC wasn't rolled out prior to the last election.. Everyone hold on because it will get much worse before it gets better. They won't even confess how screwed up it really is, so what else are they concealing and refusing to tell us? Obama lied. No surprise there, they all lie. Wait until the Dems start robbing from the wellfare system to fund Obamacare. Wait, the wellfare system already robs from Social Security. This just gets better and better.
Which brings up a good dinner party question for the Dems. You hear tales of how Social Security is going to run out of money by 2021. Why is it you never hear them say Wellfare is going to run out by a certain date?
Force the working class to pay into Social Security, then bankrupt it with Entitlement Programs. Impeach Obama and hang Harry Reid next to Pelosi on the Whitehouse lawn for the treasonous traitors they are.

If I sound like a Broken Record, I know. The record is broken, I just want the heads of state on a platter because they are to blame for this bullsh!t.

Our last quote for our business was 68% more than it was last year. At least we can admire each others shoes while we're bent over......

And today my wife learned the "OTHER" side of obamacare. She finally found a Dr she likes, and he is leaving his practice as of December 15 because his salary got cut to the point he can't even pay his student loans, and all of the insurance companies are fleeing. So not only did we lose our insurance policy(had to settle for a CRAPPY HMO for MORE than were paying now), we are also losing our doctors we liked.

I pay for my own insurance and its one of those rare grandfathered policies that I've been with before all this crap came down. I pay a little over $250 on monthly premium with a $10,000 deductible. I haven't been to a doctor since a physical for high school sports over 20 years ago. I dont get sick, try to be careful, and eat well/take care of myself. You know what they say about no good deed going unpunished, I keep expecting to open the mail and have the letter saying "We regret to in form you......" . So far so good, but you know what they say, "All quiet on the western front".

ok here it goes. as i said my wife & i are self insured. we got a letter .from blue cross blue shield stating our currant plan would go away jan 31 and they had picked another plan close to what we had. that plan was 70% more than out currant plan. i felt we might be able to get the tax credit. so i went on line with no luck(kept getting kicked off).so this week i called the help line and talked with a nice gentleman and went thru the process. at the end we did qualify for the tax credit, now with that our policy will be 104.37 CHEAPER than what we were paying before. i dont like all this s*#t about this healtcare and i dont like OBAMA!! but i am grateful to recive the tax credit.the credit is based on your income and # of people in the household. the lower your income the more you can quailfy for. so its seems like if you want health insurance you cant make much money!

daydreamer, I believe the tax credit only applies if you take ACA insurance, not your private plan. from the way your post reads, its sounds like you are applying the tax credit to your personal plan. Everything I've read says that the tax credit only applies to O care enrollment. I may be wrong, but its based on what I've read. If the guy on the phone said so, I'd get his name and number, have him fax a copy of it to you with his signature on it. BTW, what kind of deductible, out of pocket difference did you get? My sister lives in Wake Forest, shes been trying to get some answers from the help line, so far she said they don't qualify for any tax credits, and the cost of insurance on a `10K/10K plan is %70 percent higher than what they were paying with a 5k/5k plan. They are self employed, run a small business, and don't make much money.

spare not sure what aca is. we had bluecross blueshield BLUE ADVANTAGE our new plan if we choose it will be BLUE ADVANTAGE SILVER 3500. PRIMARY CARE VISITS IN NETWORK $25.00 SPECIALISTS VISITS IN NETWORK $50.00 PRESCRIPTION DRUGS $10.00 TO $70.00 DEDUCTIBLE(IND/FAMILY)$3,500./$7,000 OUT OF POCKET MAXIMUM (IND/FAMILY) $6,350/$12,700. Spare i just read the letter i got and it says you must transition to a new ACA-COMPLIANT MEDICAL PLAN!

Aca=obama care. All new insurance has to be aca compliant regardless of where it comes from. Just to clarify my point(question) is from my understanding you have to enrole in Obama care to get the tax breaks, if your BC/bs plan is a private policy, you won't be eligible for the rebates.

I thought you were over 65, congratulations on earlier retirement daydreamer.
If your retired and over age 65 signed up on Medicare, Humana Supplemental is free.. they send the bill to uncle Sam. It literally saved my boss and father-in-law thousands in premiums over United Health Care and AvMed.
A couple of things to point out:
None of the policies I see have very much going for them with respect to the out of pocket and deductible costs. Premiums are more OR they are offset by higher deductibles and out of pocket. OR both
Of course if you are one of the millions of low income folks that just got placed on Medicaid, you are stoked right about now. $1.4 Trillion is the number the Bugetary Office came up with over the next 10 years. I am no mathmetician but you could pay a lot of medical bills with $1.4T.

In theory, I could see some savings for those with individual plans. Some of those are crazy high to begin with. COBRA comes to mind..

Thanks for posting something positive daydreamer. There must be something good in it. I urge others to share their experiences. Good or bad.

Obammy is trying to change that in a press conference right now.

All I know is my wife is PISSED that she is losing her doctor Dec 15. And then there is the little fact it will cost us $5000 MORE if I have my surgery next year than it will this year. Or the fact we lost our policy we liked with acceptable out of pocket costs to a basic HMO with HUGE out of pocket costs. And I'm sure since we didn't get dropped(just switched policy types), we won't be able to stay on for what we are paying now or our current policy even with o saying you can keep your policy for another year. He sees the writing on the wall and knows if he doesn't quieten the masses some that it will be MURDER come the next election cycle. So he will just slow down the implementation some so people will not go ballistic as fast(think gas prices, if they would have went from $1 to $3 overnight people would have rioted, but because it happened over time people just went with it. And now we think $3 a gallon is cheap.).
