Getting ready

The boat has for the most part been sitting since I picked it up in the fall the weather is warming up and it's time to get her ready to splash. So far I'm working on the hatch repair, new bolsters, handle install, horn, , new wood under the seats, a panel to filling the transom and a new antenna. Pictures below. First is the strainer that was over a hole. Enlarged the hole and filled with a horn. Next is the panel to fill the transom being test fit. Then the new antenna. And last rebuilding the drain channels at the hatch opening.

More pictures...

Replaced missing handle. Back when Reelapeelin owned the boat he had covered the holes above the rod boxes with starboard. I used this starboard to rebuild the water channels on the sliding hatch. Then I made these bolsters to fit above the rod boxes. Making my own seemed to be the most cost effective way to get the size I wanted. I have about $120 in materials to make two bolsters 61" long and 5 1/2" wide. 1x6 plastic "wood" backing, white marine vinyl, some kind of synthetic fiber cushion material I found at the fabic store, and stainless mounting hardware. Hoping they last a long time.

Rick your bolsters really came out NICE!!...I was thinking the same thing when I did the boxes, but just went ahead w/S'board due to time...I was also trying to open a BBQ restaurant at the same time...

I'm sure glad the 21 is comin' along for ya!!...she's a good boat and needs exactly what she's gettin'...TLC from you...

Thanks for the pictures!!...good to see her again...

I'm happy with the bolsters too. Basically I made them the same size as the Starboard pieces you had installed. I reused the 1/4" starboard I removed to reconstruct the water channel around the cuddy hatch. I re-did the wood under the seats too (pictures coming) and I am still contemplating "fixing" the holes left by the trolling motor install by hatch and creating an anchor locker. I think that would be a first on this forum. The other interesting idea I am working on is "re-railing" the bow by adding the piece you sent me with a hinge for easy access. I will be parking the boat bow in to it's slip so a moveable rail and anchor locker will make for a clear path and less to climb / trip over. Of course, pictures to follow.

GREAT IDEA!...a hatch right there on the nose would give you direct access to the open space ahead of the cuddy that normally goes wasted...hinged bow rail??...you really are putttin' some thought in this!!...pics when ya can!!...

A few more pics... The bolsters installed, the cabin painted, the wood under the seats redone, and the boat in her slip, and lunch on the grill.

Spareparts

You could be right about that. Then again Ozzie could be riding around in a V21 wishing he had taken that chance when the opportunity was there. Either way, if my memory serves me, you were instrumental in hooking Ozzie, and eventually me, with this boat. Thanks for that and all the free advice that you have given to me and everyone here. I have been trying to decide on a name for the boat. Looking at the history of this boat on this forum and the collection of parts from different owners and forum members, I feel a bit like the boat I have is the result of a collective effort of many members here. An assembly of "Spareparts" if you will. So if you don't mind sharing the name, I might go with that as a name for the boat. The next spare part to be added will be the bow rail I'm going to pick up from Willy this weekend.

"Spareparts North" and "Spareparts South"...sounds appropriate to me...when Parrot had it, he called it "Reelapeelin", so we had North and South for that name as well...and yer right, Rick...your 21 is a compilation of the several owners she's had, up and down the East Coast...I believe it was purchased new in FL, so she's well traveled for sure...hopefully she's found a home for a good long time...you've done a great job w/her...that cuddy gives me a chubby...

Hey Oz

Annapolis is on the way to Willy's, so be sure to stop by and take a ride on the 21 on your way Willy's for some of that BBQ he's "fixin" to make.
