Fuel tank access panel (making weather tight)

I have an '82 Wellcraft V20 fisherman. I have re wired and replace the fuel lines and it is time to replace a repaired 3'x 6' access pane (factory)
What is typically used to seal around the joint between panel/deck. this is a molded access panel with rounded corners...
Thanks
Colin

Usually silicone. That was most factories use. You put some in the holes where the screws go to seal that up then you pass a bead in the gap between the panel and the deck filling the gap.

sealing material

Hi
Thanks guys.
I don't use any silicone products on the boat.
How about "Boat Life" or Sikaflex....both above the waterline products....
I was going to install a few screws to hold the panel in place and seal. i didn't know if there was a certain product spec'd on the market? No need to get below deck i that area, only if the tank needed to be replaced.
Thanks again

You can permanently seal it if you want, with sika flex or whatever, but I think you want to be able to remove it, if needed.

Normally when you gotta get back in there, yer gonna cut that seal away anyway...so like mentioned above, I like to go back w/4200...I think it was Franco left a line of some sort under the seal..if he ever had to go back in, the idea was to pull that line straight up all the way around to cut that seal...sounded good, but don't know how it worked out...
