Fluke Rigs - WHats been working for you?

Sean

God
The winds been blowing for the last few days and the fog rolled in thick, so my planned fluke trip for today will have to be put on call until tomorrow. I decided to tie up a few fluke rigs that will incise the 10lbr on all of our lists.  ;D ;) ;DI figured Allot of us like the Flat fish so I would share a few of my rigs and see what you guys are using.
I have way too many different styles of teasers for my rigs, from rubber squid, flies, to old faith full white buck tails.   ::)But my rigs are pretty basic, 3-way swivel with 20lb pink Andes (no reason other than I got it @ a yard sale for a 1$) about 14 inch length tide in a over hand loop for my sinker/bullet and another line of 50lb big game about 12inchs tied to directly to my teaser. I have tries longer and shorter and this set up seems to be the most productive with the least amount of tangles. ;)

I use basically three different casting rods, all with 50lb power pro. I like it, super sensitive and cuts through the water nice witch lessons the amount of led I need to use. The rods are all bait casters and all fast action, the small set up, a Crowder 6’6’ 6-12lb with a Calcutta 200 (skinny water to about 20 feet) another Crowder, 7ft (cut down to about 6’7’) 12-20 with a Calcutta 400 (20 – 70ft) and finally a St Croix 6’6’ (cut down to about a 6’4’) 12-25 with another Calcutta 400 for 70 – 100ft.

i use a 5.5 foot conventional rod i got from wal-mart for $5. bucks with a penn peerless number 9 levelwind with 15 lb berkley solar collector green mono.
on the other end i use a hook with a piece of bait on it.
usually a local spearing which i net myself or a strip of searobbin belly. sometimes local squid.

Thanks for the input Charlie ;D
I used to think all the flash was a waist and only would fish with a white bucktail and sinker. Now, if a fluke SEES both baits, one with "flash" and one with out, I still dont think it makes a diffrence. Recently I have convienced my self that the flash will grab the attention of a fish that other wise would not know the bait was there ??? Fluke are site predeators, and they wont hit what they don't see. just my opinion, trying to find out what is working for others.
Thanks again ;D

Down here all we use to catch flounder (fluke) is a double steal leader with two hooks, and minnow with a strip of squid on each hook. two or three ounce sinker and let it bounce off the bottom as we drift. usually in the bay, in 6 to 12 feet of water.

I use 8 pound monofilament

nothing fancy...... ;)

Thanks C_YENSEN ;D How come the double steel Leaders? 6 to 12 feet of water, must be nice.
Right now I'm fishing 60 to 80 feet :-[ :P

SORRY.....IT IS MORE OF A STEAL RIG THAT HAS A PLACE TO TIE ON 2 LINES AND A SINKER I WILL FIND A PIC IF I CAN ;D

Sean, Cy is fishing inshore in the bay, 6-12' mostly but there are some deeper holes. The bigger fish are in 60-100' here as well. I haven't been out alot this summer, but that is where I have caught mine, in deeper water. Here is a pic of a 28" 9lb'er from last week, caught in 70' of water on a squid strip with a white teaser:

CY, I'm gonna have to bring my "V" up and show you some of these spots. It'll change the way you fish ;D

I have found that just a hook and freash bait will work just fine but I do keep a stash of fluke rigs like the ones you have made up. This time of year in the tidewater Va area the bigger flounder are in deeper holes from around 45 to 80 feet of water. Check out this link of a guy who caught a 12lb 12oz 31inch flounder this past weekend from one of this fishing holes. I have never hooked up on any fluke of this size but its nice to see that there are some around that size which gives me hope of landing the big one.

Hope the link works. To catch these big fish guys use live spot or croaker around 5 to 6 inches long. You have to scroll down to about the middle of the page to see the pic.

CY, thanks! Those look just like the rigs guys up here use for Scup/Porgies.
Air, that what I'm talking about! ;D Nice fish!! Must of been a decent fight lifting him off the bottom ;D
Still, the link didn't work, need to log in. But that is a trophy fish by any standards.  The peanut bunker have moved in here and hopefully my next trip out (not today SSE gusting to 30knts  :'( :-/) I'm going to try and grabb some with my week attempts @ cast netting ::) :P :P ;D
How far off the bottom are you guys fishing? (Sinker to hook. ) and how long is your leader to your hook?
Thanks guy, allot of good info.

sean, lately i've been using a teaser rig that i tie myself.
i keep a smaller bait off the bottom with a dropper loop, about 18-24 inches above the main bait.
still catchin the same amount of fish i been catchin for the last 40 years.
fluke aint fancy and they dont care what you put down there.
my pop once used a berkley gulp grub and kept up with me no problem, and it lasted about 10-15 fish.

just give em something to chase and they will chase it.

Charlie, sounds basicly like the rigs I've been using. I find the teaser out fishes the bottom bait two to 1.
Air, Now that is a Door Matt, I think I would be more proud of a 13lb fluke then a 40lb Striper (probably because in 25 years of Fluke/flounder fishing I have not broke 10lbs ::) :-/ )
All good stuff, and hopefully we can all gain a litle bit of info, or a new style out of this :D (I know Charlie, that sounded Gay ;D).
