Fixed a few problems I noticed the other day. First the new starter I bought last year was dragging and killing my battery. Took it off and tore it down and found the shaft going through the armature broke behind the bendix. Ive been messing with motors all my life, never seen the shaft break in half. Took an old starter apart and cleaned and used the old armature. That fixed my starter trouble, starts like a dream now. Next was my power trim pump, had to tap it to get it going. Took it apart and the brushes were stuck in the brush holders, had alittle green corrosion in them. Pulled all the brushes out , cleaned the holders and the armature up and put it all back together. Cleaned the reservoir and pickup screens and replaced the trim fluid. Runs like a new one. Boats really take a lot of time to keep them right.
I once took the starter off a truck in Kentucky Fried's parking lot, disassembled the starter with a pair of vise grips and an adjustable wrench. Freed up the brushes, put it back together and had the truck up and running before our order was ready. Fired the truck up and headed for the lake.
