Fishing.....I mean wind report

I made it down to Holden Beach (NC) Tuesday night with two buddies. (My friend pulled my V down with his truck).

I had been watching all week and the wind forcast was ok, 10-15 out of the south (typical summer pattern).

Holden faces south so if you get out early in the morning before the wind starts you have a nice ride out, then with a south wind you get a nice following sea on the way back.

Got up @ 0530 Wednesday and the wind was already 10-15....usually it will be 5-10 that early.

Put in the V and went out Lockwood's Folly inlet to find 2-3 foot seas...not bad, and the forcast is for no increase in wind from were it was.

Set gps for a spot 23.8 nautical miles out due south (with visions of snapper, kings, and mahi dancing in my head)

Ran for 5 miles and it was more like 3-4 feet...told the guys that it was gonna be bumpy and asked if they wanted to try something nearshore.  "It's a shame to come all this way and wimp out" says the one who is most prone to sea sickness.

I had to slow to about 12 knts getting out and slower over the occasional 5 footer comming by.

Get to the spot and immediatly the chumming starts.  It was pretty rough 4-5 foot seas.  I tried to fish but with both of my good friends on their knees chumming, I felt bad and brought them back in.

I did stop at a couple of black bass hunny holes on the way back in and snag enough for dinner.

Well the forcast was the same for Thursday so we decided to sleep in and just do some inshore (IWC) fishing in the morning and head home in the afternoon.

Got up around 0730 and the wind was still (like it should have been Wednesday morning).  The guy who got sick as soon as we stopped on Wed says he wants to go again.

I took them about 4 miles out of Shalotte Inlet (seas were1-2) and we caughtafew more black bass, then we came in and fished a little in the Lockwood's Folly river, snaging a few speckled trout, spots, croakers and pinfish.

All in all, it was better than working, but not a great trip as far as catching goes.  But it was good to fellowship with my good friends and I got to test out the V in some pretty good seas.

I only got a few pics.....the other guys took more but I don't have them.

My V @ 70 mph.

Close up of the fish, it must be a juvenile grouper or something.

Sounds like a great trip and at least y'all made the effort. I hate to see a seasick, buddy, about the worst feeling in the world. But you stuck it out and caught some fish, and the V did ya proud. ;D
