3 hours off my dock on High Rock lake yesterday. 2 nibbles no hookups. 5 rods out with cut herring and gizzard shad. Should've took a pic of the 1 lb crappy I caught in the cast net getting bait. :
I've been twice but nothing exceptional. Caught a 7#2oz Dolphin Wednesday and caught loads of craoker, spot, 8 flounder, and 3 trout Friday. Nothing worthy of the scale yet for me. Caught the dolphin 12 miles off the beach in 4ft seas in my V though.
Going to be 6-8 ft seas around for the next couple of days, it will be thw weekend before it calms down all the way. maybe all these NE breezes will blow things in some.
Otherwise I'll have to post the next 7 lb king mackerel I get.. just to put something up ;D with a state record of 80 lbs or so not really worth it.
Its been raining a lot here in Beaufort NC ( like the last two days)but I got out three days last week. Kings are still close but nothing to brag about my biggest was around 16 lbs, caught a couple of bruiser black drum the biggest was 41lbs at the Oriental Tarpon Hole but big puppy drum have been hit and miss along with keeper trout with lots of throw backs. I've picked up some nice flounder drifting berkleys gulp shrimp in about 35 feet of water at the turning basin and in front of the coast guard station and am going to hit it again at first light tomorrow morning. We are catching nice trout at night under dock lights using berkley's gulp shrimp baits but its kind of muddy now. I did not have any luck on spanish last week for some reason, I just could not get in to them and no birds were working at all. I picked up two Mahi at the sea buoy this morning with one running right at 11 pounds and lost a very big King or possible Waho at the AR315 wreck trolling live jumping mullet on a green Boons Dolphin Rig...Lots of sharks to screw up your rigs...More and more big hammerheads showing up close to shore including a monster that has moved in and claimed the morehead city fish cleaning station..I saw a black lab swimming around a skiff there the other night ...not a good idea.....Frank
Wind waves and murky waters. Not a thing on the lower bay. Scott where you going for the specs. Little ones down here near the HRBT good for bait only. Going to Nags Head this weekend maybe something down that way.
Roger that Lesterus... I am planning on Sat evening (4:00 pm or so) or Sunday. more likely Saturday.. I'm gonna go for something Big! Big bait, Big fish! ;D
I did get out an catch some spanish over the weekend. Caught over 20 but only had 7 keepers to about 3 lbs. Didn't even get out the scale. The fish were all between 14 - 20 inches fork length.
Good eatin!
Will post pictures as soon as my slacker friend emails them :
Oh yeah also saw a school of 100 lb class tarpon breaking the water right outside the inlet! What a site. My friend called me over on the radio and said he'd seen a school of drum. Nope, wasn't drum, it was TARPON! I saw them break 3 times in 30 seconds before they went down not to be seen again.
**Note: The friend that called me over to the school of "drum" also said he caught a 2 foot long "mullet" on a clarkspoon....this "mullet" turns out to be a ladyfish thanks to an excellent picture taken by a female passenger :
