Deck Light Ideas

The Bottom Line

New member
I'm looking for some ideas on what kind and where to place some lights on my V20 to give it a good look (pictures are also very helpful). I usually get out on the water at night twice a year but I plan on doing it more this summer.
The only lights I have now besides my navigation lights are one in each rod holder on the gunnel.
Thanks guys!

I am going with led strip lighting under my gunwales, The advantage of putting them under the gunwales is that its indirect light meaning its not blinding you at night when fishing or running. You can buy them in 16' rolls and the cool thing about them is you can cut them every three led's and still wire it up and use that length of strip light. Im gonna be doing some 3 led strips in my hatches and bilge area and in some spots under my t-top. I bought 2 cool white 16' led strip lights and 2 blue led 16' light strips. each gunwale will get a full 16' foot length of blue and white on each side so I can change colors. Heres a boat off The Hull truth with some gunwal lights in blue and a pic of a boat with cool white.

this vendor is in china. It takes 2 weeks to get your lights. This vendor told me in a message that these are the exact same lights companies in the U.S. are selling and labeling them "marine" for 80 to 100 dollars a roll. and yes both of these rolls are water proof. They also come with 3m adhesive tape already applied to the strip lighting for easy install and they are ready to hook to a switch with a power source. These leds do not need drivers!!!!

six west marine brand drawer pull red l.e.d. lights are my setup, the red is easy on the eyes and doesn't hurt the night vision. the midship lights are a little off after i installed the new seats  but they do excellent lighting the deck.

There's a reason that all US Naval ships have only red lights on after sunset. It takes almost 20 minutes for the average persons eyes to adjust to the dark. (more as you grow older) As soon as you turn on any color other than red you loose your night vision and have to start over again. BarnagatV20 got it right. Red is the color you want if you're out at night. White and blue and all other colors may look cool but they hurt your night vision,... which is not cool. :head:

Just out of curiosity, how to you feed power to these LED's? Is there any soldering involved or are they screw terminals?
