Check out my spearfishing video on youtube...

I have had the diving bug lately. Never done it, been looking into the cost to get started. Looks like a blast.

On another note.

Would someone please ban Robin Hood. 10 off topic posts about his boat hauling business.

looks like fun, first video looked like natural bottom off to the west, was the second a stone container drop?

Hey there pdaddy!
Long time no see.

Yep that's all hard bottom to the west. Not sure about the wreck, it's a number my buddy gave me, he had only fished it and wasn't sure what it was. I thought the same as you, some kind of construction dumpster/container with holes cut in the sides. Stupid me forgot to look in the pipes for shovelnose.

Wow, I just got my first speargun. A Biller 42. Free diver only at this point. The video set me on fire..

42 Biller was my first gun as well. Wish I wouldn't have sold it. The gun w/ double bands in the first video is my buddy's 42.
Mine's a 54 Biller, padauk wood.

Very nice videos. I watched the 1st. Nice shooting on those reds inside the rocks. Makes me want to freeshaft more often. And stoning that 1st red snapper was nice, too.

I never really got into spearing them. I enjoy diving, but just couldn't get into shooting them. i prefer hook and line myself. Although I haven't dove in years as my tanks are out of hydro and I no longer have a dive partner.

Nice fish and video!!!! That other video of the AJ gettin shot after the grouper dipped out was an aggresion/retaliation shot!!!! Ive had a few of those......

I for one love AJ, but agree on the snaps and grouper too. I just thought it was a cool video and love all the fish congregation around our rigs in the Gulf. Some people hate the rigs but I love em.

It's interesting that AJ is beloved in the gulf. East Coasters definitely turn their nose up to them - so I haven't given it a fair shake. But when I was in Destin, AJ was on every menu.

We caught a 30" AJ last Sunday and Dave kept it for the smoker. Then on the filet table it had worms in the tail - and this was just a small one. I passed on the AJ and just kept grouper, flounder and sheep.

I think East Coast AJs have worms, while Gulf AJs don't.

The footage is cool, I agree. I would love to dive the rigs someday. So much marine life. I wish we had them off the East Coast - for several reasons.

Thats interesting about the worms. Never seen em in our Gulf ones Ive caught.

Everywhere is different...down here we HATE blue fish and hardly anyone eats em.

Never seen worms in an AJ in teh GULF either, and they are downright good on the smoker. And I'm wierd, but I like bluefish myself. Remove the blood strip, brine em in salt water in the fridge overnight, and deep fry em comes out good. then again I think spanish mackeral is mighty tasty too. Of course my wife hates fishy tasting fish, but even she'll eat bluefish and macks when i cook em the way I described.

Just about EVERY EC AJ has worms but they cut out easily.....mmm mmm mmm......I know what you are thinkin but its not terrible. I keep em because I have a buyer for them and they are a blast to put offshore newbies on. As for me I will pass but they still get the spear.....They will cut a day of bottom fishin short though. Its the only fish that can cramp me up towards the end of the day so I will give em credit..........

Aaron - Wait till I drop you on those tower legs.....I have a feelin you will forget about the gulf rigs!!!!! Last year I had a 75lb Cobia come right up to me on one. Mangos, pinkies, groupers, snapppers, oh me oh my......
