Camera Recommendations

I have a 10 year old FUJI FinePics Digital Camera.
There is the reason I don't take many pictures.
It eats batteries when you turn on the LCD display. It can be used without the display but what is the fun in that? Why did they put one on it, if it kills the batteries? You can't even fill up the smallest SD card in the thing before the batteries go dead. It takes 2 AA batteries. It came with a charger and rechargeable batteries that don't last as long as a pair of fresh Duracell batteries.
Anybody got a recommendation on a good new camera?
I want to be able to take at least 50 pictures before replenishing the batteries.
I believe this one is 6 mega-pixels. Someone told me the new ones with 6 mega-pixels don't take as nice a picture as the old cameras. I dunno, 6 megapixels is probably entry level camera of today. This one has 6X zoom.

I got the same camera....well almost the same , did we notice that when we were together in SC?....any way mine has four batteries but I do not use the LCD viewer as it does eat the batteries MUCH faster like you say, but its not too terrible, I can definitely use the camera heavily 3 or 4 times without killing the batteries. I dont mind actually looking through the camera as with bright sunlight I cant usually see a thing anyway. I usually kill the batteries when I download to the PC and then forget to turn the damn thing off when I'm done. I will say though I think it takes some really good pictures though, especially with the zoom. not sure if I have 6x or higher.

I'm sure these days they're all pretty good if you spend a couple of bucks.

Get yourself a Panasonic Lumix. We use them at work all the time. I work for a real estate construction company and the guys in the field are always taking pics to send to the office on the progress of a project. These cameras take a beating and keep going. I have one also, and I've only had to recharge the battery 3 times in a year and a half. It's 12 MP, digital and focal zoom, great pics, comes with a 4GB SD card and frankly takes better pics than my wifes Pentax, at half the price. Most of the pics I've posted here in the last year were taken with that camera. I'd give it a 4 1/2 star rating. :head:

I've got an Olympus water proof(and shock proof) camera. Found it at Costco for under $200. Its great that I can wash the salt off of it when I'm back from fishing. Takes great pics. Had to send it back once for repairs. The battery that comes with it last a long time(comes with its own charger). At 4 mp, I think it will hold 1200 pics, takes video as well.

not to sound like a broken record, but "what destroyer said"...except I think he meant to say "lumix".

I did a lot of research and decided on the panisonic lumix DS7. It has a great lens (Leica 12X zoom), takes great pictures and videos.

previously I had an olympus, pictures were not all that great and I was glad when it pooped the bed. There was also a long delay from focus to taking the picure. I missed many shots with that POS.

Yup.. "What RKC said". He's right on the money... Lumix is correct... but no matter how you spell it, it's still a great camera, and is less than $150 at Costco.

Those comments don't correspond to the model I just posted. Fabulous shots, instant focus, I have had at least 6 different ones here in my house with the wife and kids, thats currently. Many others before, none hold up and perform like this baby.
As a matter of fact it was Ozzie who turned me on to them four or five years ago, for the same reason, this newest model is even better with the images right on.

Now I got a Nikon Cool Pix S8100...it's probably more camera than I need, but one feature I really like is the STEADY function...keeps the fuzzy pics away...lost the one Willy's talkin about and had another stolen...

Thanks for the info. I got to looking at this old brick, only 2 megapixel and only 3x optical zoom. I bought one for the wife last year, I was confusing the two. Kinda the chevette of cameras, it works once you get it going but doesn't do anything real well. I paid $350 for it but that was at least 10 years ago.

I second Spare on the Olympus waterproof. I have had one for 3-4 years now and the thing just keeps on going no matter how much I beat it up. Mine takes pretty damn good photos, but the newer models are even better.

I also own a Nikon DSLR that takes great photos, but to be honest we use the olympus so much more and have more memories with it because no matter where we are (skiing, snorkeling, at the beach, etc) we have it with us. We don't worry about it getting wet or sat on, it's great.
