Barnegat Bay Rendezvous

this is the Dutchman's we spoke of If this pic isn't real clear Google earth 2500 east bay ave manahawkin NJ 08050

To the far left is causeway boat rentals this where I keep my boat

Pete if your coming into the Dutchman's from the north keep all the way to your port side its deep water all the way in not sure how deep but even on the lowest tide Ive never had a problem (only locals really know this as we watch the weekend warriors run aground all the time running down the middle.

For fluke you want either double creek channel towards the lighthouse but that gets hairy on weekends. BB or BI bout area just south of tices, oyster creek channel or you need to go behind beach haven to the middle grounds, the old stink house or the holgate inlet.

Let's do it now, mine is all waxed n ready to get dirty. New bilge pump is holding me back..

That whole area of the bay is beautiful, the most memorable day on the water ever for me was there in the bay north of the Tices area while my friend Rich and our other friend jack were heading home on Rich's Grady due to a thunder storm that came up on us while outside the inlet fishing.
All of a sudden we came into a break in the storm, the sun busted thru with the most beautiful rays that struck the water in fromt of us, the lit up water sparkled and the bait fish were jumping clear out of the water. We looked at each other and turned into it, drifting thru multiple times with top water action like I have never had in my life on mid size blues(the good eating size) all on light tackle. Then while having this most incredible view and fishing all of a sudden right alongside us appeared a double rainbow of the strongest intensity I have ever seen, it looked like you could grab it and climb to the sky.
Now you had three full grown men that have seen some in life, just frozen, we stopped casting and just sat down and let the boat drift for about twenty minutes.
I can't really explain it better but it was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen in nature.
The rainbow started to fade, the big cooler was full of still kicking blues on ice, blood all over the deck, and three men without saying a word just looked at each other for a minute then started the motor and headed in.
I hope someday I have the opportunity to see something like that again, if not, it's OK, I saw it once.

Cool story willy..... Ive seen some crazy stuff like that in Harvey Cedars, Ive always said its rite in the track of a storm tunnel... its hard to explain .... you have to see it to believe it.

Hopefully Rob Wilson will chime in on the camping spot he had last year, he said that was nice and there was a launch near or in it. I believe it was just across the bay from the area we are talking about

Here's the link to the campground we stayed in the last 2 years. Pretty close to the Barnegat Bay area. They have boat parking (extra fee of course) and its a mile or so to 2 ramps that I know of. I have been using a place called Downes Fish Camp but there also appears to be 2 marinas in Lanoka Harbor that have ramps as well.

We already have a trip booked ending that first weekend, if it was the second weekend, it would be tough for me to make it as well after being away...

From the phone conversations and what I see here the majority so far are saying the weekend of July 15-18 will work best.
Are we all right in making that the date the one for all to make their plans?

Well, I am good for the Second option. The other I have commitments, might be able to squeeze out a few hours for the earlier date. If Oz can get up here I will give him the keys and gps so he can take reelapeelin out.

The canal isn't always bad...last night, incoming tide. GPS clocked me at 12mph in neutral....

Well not to many chiming in yet on the first weekend listed, lets get some input from others, so far I know the date is good for me, Lumber, Capt. Pete, MJ, Chumbucket, Lee, Rob Wilson, a couple of others I have forgotten I am sure.

I've never been able to figure out how ppl could go thru the canal when there was a tide running without sinking their boats... Saw more than one boat almost swamp when they hit the waterfall effect of the outgoing tide hitting the slack water. It looks to be a several foot drop. I love fishing the canal at slack tide though... drift a bloodworm on a hook with no tackle.... almost like fly fishing..... (stripers just love drifting worms)...it's fun walking the bank watching the boats fight their way in and out through the canal. Haven't been there in a long while....think I'm gonna have to put it on the "must visit" list soon. :head:

Destroyer <-------seems to be on the forgotten list...<sigh>

Been waiting for you to chime in my friend, you getting your arse down there or what?

Planning on it Will... not totally sure until I see what date comes up. Either weekend looks good right now.... Since I missed last years (God, is it that long ago already?) and couldn't go to the southern get together I figure I'd better make this one or ppl will begin to doubt I really exist. :head:

WOW... I just realized... 04/13/10 was when I made my first post here... It's just over a year since I joined... :sun:
