Barnegat Bay Rendezvous

Barnegat Bay Rendezvous July 15th - 17th

I have been asked by a couple of people in conversations to narrow down a time for this summer's NJ get together so people can make plans.
I ran dates by several so far and wanted to post to get opinions from everyone.
We are looking at the following two weekends, doing like a Friday Saturday Sunday thing for those that can or any portion thereof for those who want to do a day thing. It looks like I am going to have the Wind Talker and CB coming down to my place on Friday and going from here.
The weekend of July 16-17
The weekend of July 23-24
So opinions from all would be great, especially Lumber as we are all getting drunk and crashing at his house.

Willy,
sorry I was so quick on the phone the other night. I was at my soccer game and just so happened to be on the bench when you called. But I was next in line to go back in. I was thinking about what you said. There is a pretty good place called Waters Edge. It gets pretty busy but there are plenty of places to park boats. But in a south wind it could get pretty rough. There are a few places in Forked River that could work if is blowing too hard. The weekend of the 16/17 will work for me. I have to work the weekend before and after. Maybe we can get a little fishing tournament going for the weekend too. I got my secret weapon:sly:

Willy never calls me

A Charlie Brown contest!! We all get one of them little cartoon rods and see who can get the biggest fish on it!

We could do a $10 or $20 a man into the pot and do a biggest fluke tournament or figure how to include stripers by size against state record in there also.
In July down there stripers will be fewer and far between, you would have to go outside which is easy enough. Barnegat has not been that good for stripers for my buddy down there for a few years, usually a night thing and very early morning along sod banks with an occasional weakie in the mix , just outside the inlet along the rocks is where most of the big stripes can be found. Sea Bass will be outside if you make a run to some wrecks.
Fluke will be scattered all over inside and out and blues will be all over.

I am in for the 23rd 24th. Ozzie can stay w me and captain the reelapeelin'. Watersedge does get rough but w the south wind but we could ditch and go down Toms river to the shanty too, or the Dutchman by lumber..

Or... Head thru the canal up to the manasquan river... Lots of fluking opportunities and the patio is there too... Don't ask how I know where all the waterfront bars are..

Going through the canal on a Saturday afternoon is an adventure itself. I never get the tide at my back.

A couple of times I made that long slow no wake ride it was not worth it to me. If we are in the main bay we are within a pretty short run to just about anything fishing wise and probably a lot of other places to hang. Tice's to hang and raft up, short run to good fishing along banks and channels, the whole area inside the Barnegat Inlet and of course the inlet itself and outside for deeper water. Pretty good mix.

Hopefully Rob Wilson will chime in on the camping spot he had last year, he said that was nice and there was a launch near or in it. I believe it was just across the bay from the area we are talking about

what about the forked river house or the old south winds I forget what its called now .... or like parrot said theres the dutchmans thats perfect pretty lot of dock space and calm water 99% of the time... its about a 20-25 minute ride from tices.

I don't know ANYTHING about the area, but reading thru this thread..."calm water 99% of the time"....REELY jumps out for me!!...

And THANKS for the offer, Craig...sounds REELAPEELIN!!...if I make it up there, I'll take you up on that!!...

The canal isn't that bad, if you hit the tide right on Saturday the worst I have ever seen was 8' waves.....right by bridge avenue. I am good either way, my dock is 4 miles north of Watersedge and the second dock is about 1/2 mile from dutchmans. Tony's bait n tackle is 3 houses over in manahawkin. Cannot wait, 3 more days till she goes in.

yeah the Dutchman sounds good. I love German food. I love that canal. It's usually good for a sinker or a rollover at least once a year. Now they have a barge in there to redo the west wall. Another obsticle.

Hopefully some of you with local experience fishing this area will provide us with links (like Spare did) for fishing areas and maybe a satellite shot of the area so the rest of us can get a look at where we'll be fishing and partying.:sly::beer::sun:

Mr Krinkle likes to know the area.:sun:
