Yo Air, Waiting for the overtime check to come in, before I check out and replace my volt reg. Been seeing low prices and totally off the wall prices on the volt reg. Hopefully within a few weeks I'll get her done.

OK my man. If you need a hand testing to make sure your swapping out the right part, just shout reeeeel loud. ;D

Does your alternator have 1 wire or 3 wires to it? If it's a 3 wire, you need to find which one is for excitation voltage. Hook a volt meter up to the main outlet wire and start the engine. Connect 12volts from the battery to the excitation lead and if your voltage jumps to 14-18v+, your voltage regulator is bad. If the voltage stays the same, something else in the alternator is bad.

what kind of motor do you have i have a 1988 150 merc o b and there is a rectifier and voltage regulator the rectifier is cheap about 35 dollars the voltage is more money but i would check the wires on the voltage regulator first and clean them they could be corrodid

check the conections on the voltage regilator is mounted on the top of the motor with a couple of wires clean the terminals and check to see if there corroded you might have to change it and the rectifier also
then you should be good to go
