Bad /good news

I filled my boat up with gas for winter. And gas started spilling out of my hull drain plug area , not good but it stopped after about a gallon came out. The good news is I found out there was a problem on land and not in the water. God forbid there was a spark. ***128293;. So what I’m thinking is it’s leaking somewhere from the top, possibly the hose fill where it attaches to the tank. I hope it’s not the tank,it’s a plastic tank.
Any suggestions?

I feel for you step, check the the hoses as you mentioned and also the fuel sending unit. There is a seal there where I have had trouble in the past. Hope it isn't the tank. Keep us posted on what your find.

Thanks guys. I’m glad that I found out how to post on the new forum. I’m not to good with computers.
I’m not going to do nothing now ( it’s winter in nj now ,almost winter )but before I put the battery’s in I will check all. The fittings. Inopeitsnot going to be bad. .
.

You know blue runner ,I can check the sending unit without taking the panel off there is an access panel right over the sending unit
I didn’t think of that. Thanks.

sending unit seal is a pretty common problem, easily fixed. It normally shows up if you fill your tank full or over full. Same for the fill hose. Good luck.

I didn’t get a chance to find out why or where it’s leaking yet. You know. Winter in nj. When I find out I will post the update. Probably late march or early April

Don t know if you have ever pulled the tank. On my 83,the original was foamed into the fuel compartment with a PVC pipe running under the tank. This was to keep leaking fuel out of the bilge. If u had fuel coming out of the transom drain, might indicate leak is on the top on the tank, where all the hoses are.

Just trying to help u think positive till spring

btw, you're far better off with an empty tank for the winter than a full one, especially if theres any ethanol in the tank, If you have a poly tank, you wont get any condensation, if you have a n aluminum one, you will get very little

Spareparts it’s a poly tank when I bough5 my boat about 30 years ago it was leaking from the welds on top. I’m thinking and hoping it’s a fitting that came loose. It’s always something. I’m going to take the panel off and see if I can find where it’s leaking from. Before I even start her next year. I hav3 to fixit. And I hav3 to fix the broken roller on 5he trailer too .
Spareparts ,if you ever move to nj. Let me know. We need a good honest marine mechanic
