Auxillary Motors

Any of you guys with brackets running an small second motor, I want to mount my 9.9 Suzuki on Old School and not sure of the best way to do it. Dont want to mount second set of controls but would like to use main engine to steer but it sits a long way back on a bracket ???
 
So Mac you are using the main as a rudder type thing right, not using a steering arm between the two. Anyone with a bracket out there that has connected them ?
 
And Mac or any one else what bracket did you use for the mount of the auxilliary motor. I see three or four diierent ones but don't know the why one would be better than another
 
willy, just got rid of my 22 sea ray. had a 225 on a bracket. had a 15 on one of those little up and down brackets. would just set the kicker straight back and use the big motor to steer like a rudder set up. worked fine.
 
Sounds perfect to me, less work, I didn't think it would manuever well like that but I guess it does, good ;D
 
If you are going to do that is it just as well getting one of the fixed motor bracket where you just tip it up and down or is the lowering kind the best ?
 
If It was I, I think I would get the lifting one to get it up out the way??

Iwant one butnI have a full swim platform on my boat. so there is no were to pou one. >:(

All I have is a 3 inch lip all around the bracket?? As you can seen here.

MJ, just looking at your platfrom I'm assuming the platform is hollow and sealed for flotation like my single armstrong without swim platform. is it hollow all the way out to the sides as well. If it is hollow or solid plate you should be able to bolt a flat to the swim platform metal plate that is welded to a angled T off the edge and have a perfect mount for a small motor. I don't know how strong it is on the sides but if it will support swimmers it should support a 60-80lb motor no problem
 
The center is hollow for flotation and the 3" lip all the way around is just 1/2 aluminum, I was thinking about mounting something there?
Maybe some day?? Ity is very strong!! I am 300# and so is my son, and we have both been on that thing at the same time!! :o
 
D@mn ! grow em big up there do ya ;D Is that what CB meant when he said on the other post about weight on the stern for my bracket , you and he have plenty of weight back there. I thought he was talking about your motors LOL.
All kidding aside I think rigging up a late to mount on that would be a snap if you know someone who could weld aluminum. If you do do it make a gasket out of plastic or something similar to prevent galvanization
 
when you write a post and something isn't typed right and you want to fix it,
Just go to the top right corner of that post and hit MODIFY,
That will bring you to your post, you can add or fix what ever you want then hit save at the bottom.
Your post will come back all fixed!!

Of coarse if you like making another post the way you do now thats fine also.

As for the bracket, I will look into it some time?? Cause that 175 just does not like to troll under 5mph and the fish are from 2 to 3 mph around here.
I am always clunking in and out of gear trying to maintain a good speed.

There has been some talk here about trolling plates but I no I will be snaping them all the time forgetting to lift them back up!! :o
I know that they have the kind that will automatic go up when you take off, I just think I be better off with a kicker on the back.
 
Thanks MJ I did not know that, and I agree you'll be better off with a 2nd motor. Plus it gives you peace of mind also and that is worth a lot. Some of the places here near inlets and points where you have standing waves and shallow sand bars are no place to be when a motor dies on you. That is reason #1 for me doing it, 2 is that I need a 9.9 for the fresh water lakes here. Because we are gay NJ. and can't be trusted with a loaded outboard >:(
 
MJ, if you're in this just for the speed loss, I feel like using a 5 gallon pail dragged behind would be a cheaper solution than the trolling flap. Guarantee you won't forget it after the first time you take off with it still deployed!
 
MJ on my Gruman 16' boat I used the plastic trolling plate from Cabelas. It worked fine and had a break away screw for the many times I forget to lift the darn thing. Bil Mc ;D
 
well if i get one of them, you guys better buy stock in the break away screws!! cause i am gong to need a lot of them!!
 
Thanks Mac, looks like a clean install. When you install a auxilliary motor do you measure the same as far as depth is concerned as the main motor or do you measure differently with it being on the side of the keel?
