Aux Engine

Not from experience yer as I havn't gotten my V done yet, but from some reading it sounds like a 9.9HP is a good kicker for this hull.

I think there is a high thrust 9.9 which is probably a good choice.

Others can comment if otherwise.

I have an Evinrude 9.9 kicker I mounted on my V and I am very pleased with the results. I did not get it for an auxillary motor purpose. I simply wanted a small motor under 15 HP to be able to troll slowly for stripers with tube & worm. The 9.9 can troll as slow as .4 MPH and WOT she pushes the V at 6 MPH so it's no speed demon for sure. It does not weigh all that much so it does not add any significant weight to the transom. I even tapped into my main tanks so I do not have to carry any additional fuel tanks for the kicker. However I am confident that under certain circumstances it would get me back to dock as an auxillary motor. For a slow trolling kicker motor it works fantastic and she trolls all day long without hardly using any fuel whatsoever.

depends on what you are mounting it for, I had a 9.9 for the same reason on my first V to fish resevoirs in the area legally. It pushed my V about 8-10 mph and would be a good albeit slow back up motor. If I was fishing the big lakes and salt and had no other requirement other than an emergency back up and a slow troller then I would go with a little larger motor to push the hull quicker for a return or for pushing thru swells etc. A 15 to 25 four stroke or two would be sweet for that

9.9 gets my vote. Light and a good slow and/or shallow water troller to boot.

Mine pushes the V21 to about 7 mph and as slow as you want to go.

Thanks Guys,I have 2 small outboards.1 is a 10 Evinrude Worktwin, which I cannot get a small part for otherwise engine is perfect. The other is Honda Four Stroke 15HP,got that new last year but I think it too big and heavy ,I have it on my dinghy for going back and forth to mooring. On Saturday I tried an 8 Suzuki on it ,but that damm thing would not pull the skin of a sausage!!!.I think I will try and pick up another Ten 2 stroke or Four Stroke during the winter.2 strokes should be cheap in the UK.They are banning them because of the emissions.Anyway going by the replies so far the 10 seems to be the way to go?

Thanks Guys
